Maximum Robot Height

In section 4 of the manual (R3 part C), it states that the robot height cannot exceed 84 inches tall. Does this include any portions of the robot which may extend during game play? Ex. if we have a mechanism which will extend to the top of the pyramid?

Thank you,
Team 3550

It seems pretty clear.

Quote:

R03
The ROBOT must satisfy the following size constraints:
  1. total length of the FRAME PERIMETER sides may not exceed 112 in. (see Figure 4-1 for examples),
  2. PLAYING CONFIGURATION horizontal dimensions may never exceed a 54 in. diameter vertical cylinder (see G23), and
  3. height may never exceed 84 in. tall.

the rule you just cited:

height may never exceed 84 in. tall.
Never means never. This is all to help encourage the "climbing" notion of getting up the tower.

This rule is tricky too. During your auto zone and when you are on the pyramid you have a 7 foot maximum. Any other point in time, you are restricted to a 5 foot tall bot.

I think you mean IN your auto zone. Its not only during the AUTO period but any time you are in your auto zone, that you cna be 84" tall.

It's pretty much the exact same rule as last year.

Sorry for the typo. I do think that this rule can pose a problem for teams who don't want to climb it like a jungle gym. They don't want any corners cut. I think climbing will be a make or break task. (No pun intended)
