FIRST Seniors' Colleges

Hi everyone!
Being a senior and all, I figured I'de make a thread for the seniors where you can post what colleges you are applying to/hoping to go to/accepted to/attending and what major

I'll start...

I've recently been accepted to University of Hartford and the Hartt School of Music, and will be attending in the fall. The major I applied for is a BSE in Acoustical Engineering and Music (concentration is jazz saxophone). I had to be accepted into the engineering school and audition for the Hartt school. I successfully passed both and hope I'll see other FIRST students their!

Ready, seniors? GO!!!

P.S. Once this list starts growing, I may make a viewable spreadsheet list for everyone to see

Re: FIRST Seniors' Colleges

Good luck to all seniors graduating and moving on to college!

As I, a former FIRST student and now a mentor for Team 1708, I felt FIRST really paved the way for my Mechanical Engineering degree and helped immensly with team building skills and communication along with the design and building aspects.

Congrats! I have a high respect for anyone who chooses to pursue science or engineering along with music, because I am in the same boat.

I will be attending Northwestern University next year as a physics major, and hopefully can double major in music composition.

I will (most likely) be attending the Missouri University of Science and Tech to pursue a degree in Psych- sorry guys, not an engineer over here! :yikes:

Come to Georgia Tech!!! We're a top 10 school in all engineering majors and we're a cheaper alternative to most other top engineering schools! ;) Plus I love it here!

I've been (conditionally) accepted into the University of Calgary for engineering. First year is a common engineering program, before breaking off into different specializations in second year. I'm debating between electrical and mechanical.

If you get into/decide to attend Cornell, be sure to come mentor the local team (us)!

As for me, I've been accepted to and will be attending Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore MD for who knows what. It will be an adventure! I asked around the Facebook group for fellow FIRSTers attending but the only other person going there who was in FIRST asked me "What's Chief Delphi?"

Interesting that nobody seems to be going for industrial/manufacturing engineering... there's loads of money to be made in that field out in 2nd- and 3rd-world countries where nobody knows how to make an efficient factory.

Sure! If I end up getting accepted I'll most likely join their autonomous underwater robotics team. They are all about outreach too so this could be my giving back. If I get in

The CUAUV (Cornell University Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) team is great; they are pretty much the direct extension of the FIRST ideals on the Cornell campus. We are actually trying to set up a more direct partnership with them - a couple former FIRSTers on the team right now were going to give a vision workshop to Code Red this year but it never ended up getting off the ground.

I'm 99% sure they have a Formula SAE team and it sounds like something cool to do. Why do you want to join a SAE team?

Speaking as someone who spent his entire college career in SAE Aero Design (Formula does it all wrong--their wings are supposed to be convex up, not convex down! :p ), it's a lot like an FRC team, but it's a completely different challenge. For example, composites are used a lot in SAE events--not so much in FRC.

The other factor is that it's a great place to apply the stuff you learn in the classroom, sometimes a matter of days after you learn it. And without that application, you might design a perfect X that you later learn is impossible to build because you're running out of bolt tighteners, or something like that.

SAE Collegiate Design Series competitions include Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Supermileage, Clean Snowmobile, and SAE Aero Design. Formula goes fast, Baja handles rough terrain, Supermileage goes far, Clean Snowmobile handles snow without harming the environment, and Aero Design lifts a lot of mass while flying.

Im a huge car nut, and i figured that I'de be getting to combine my love for robotics with my love for cars and do something that involves both.

If you want to stay involved, there is the Baltimore Area Alliance.

My plans have actually changed slightly since my first post.

I will now be Majoring in Cyber Engineering at Louisiana Tech University!

I'll be going into international business at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. :yikes: I am both excited and depressed about this. I don't want to leave my team, but at the same time I'm looking forward to getting an education.

Most of our team looks to be going some where in the south east for some type of science and many of them have gotten into the air force academy for Cyber Security and Mechanical engineering. We have a girl here going into Bio medical technology, and another going into political science.

For 2013, the ones I know of from our team are:
University of Maine - Electrical Engineering
WPI - Computer Engineering

We have two more seniors, both are going on to higher eduaction, just don't know what they are for sure.

One of them mentioned getting into a specialized automotive repair school.
The other mentoned going into some type of commercial graphics and animation.

Maybe I should have paid better attention :o

I have 4 graduating seniors on my team (I don't know any of their majors explictly :ahh:);

Fitchburg State University
WPI
Worchester State University
(I don't know the fourth's, I'll ask him when I see him again)

Yaay and nooo!!! I'll be graduating in 5 days but if you guys have questions about the UofI do not hesitate to message me, and I can provide my e-mail address for quicker communication. That being said, we have a 2 year FRC team here, and a full blown robotics RSO called IRobotics . Be sure to check it out, it's pretty new so you can truly make an impact on it :D

popnbrown 07-05-2013 23:41

Re: FIRST Seniors' Colleges

Also a shameless second post to promote UofI. We don't have FIRST scholarships yet, but one day we will. FIRST teams exist all around the campus and we're slowly working our way to make our ties in the University stronger.

In addition, it's a great engineering school. Sometimes a great athletics school, and most of all fun for everyone :D

J.Warsoff 08-05-2013 09:23

Re: FIRST Seniors' Colleges

By the way, meant to say congratulations to everyone who received a FIRST Scholarship! I was lucky enough to win one as well for University of Hartford, so a big thank you to FIRST for providing the scholarships.
