Goal capacity

In looking at the high goals I was struck by how shallow the recess for frisbees to land is. In my estimation you couldn't fit more than 20 frisbees in a goal. That could be a problem. What do you think?

I was wondering about this too. Hopefully someone who attended a kickoff with a field has tested this. If not, then hopefully we will be able to test this on our field soon.

There are only 6 frisbees that count in that goal...

Also, you can check out some of my photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kimsrob...7632447784120/
6 frisbees shouldn't have trouble fitting in, though robots that climb will have to be careful not to touch those frisbees or they won't count if I remember the rule right(though look it up, I only did a quick scan).

I believe the OP is talking about the High Goal (worth 3 points), not the goal on top of the pyramid.

I have this concern too. With the discs being thrown at high speeds, they will just bounce out. If someone has access to a field, some videos would be nice.

This nomeclature is going to take some getting used to, but I'm pretty sure he's talking about the HIGH GOAL not the PYRAMID GOAL (capitalized the way FIRST does in the manual).

I had the same question about the HIGH GOAL. Thanks for the photos, Kim! Makes me slightly less nervous, but maybe someone has tested it specifically and can comment on bouncing out potential as the goal fills?

Personally, I would just call them by their point value (1, 2, 3 and 5 pointer).

Then there is no confusion.

It looks like it wont be a problem.

About 2:30 seconds in you see how once a disc enters a goal, it drops down into a large bin. Shouldn't be a problem

Re: Goal capacity

I would be much more concerned about the capacity of the MIDDLE GOALs than the HIGH GOALs. The HIGH GOALs look to have a fairly deep bin, based on the pictures I've seen.

Re: Goal capacity

3.2.4.1 DISC Points
Points are awarded for DISCS SCORED in the GOALS per

A DISC is considered SCORED in an ALLIANCE’S GOAL if any part of the DISC has crossed through the opening of the GOAL, is in the GOAL at the end of the MATCH, and is not in contact with any ROBOT from that ALLIANCE. GOAL openings are outlined in yellow in Figure 3-2 and Figure 3-3.

Does this mean that as long as the disc has entered the goal that it is considered a point regardless if it bounces back out?

Re: Goal capacity

This won't be an issue, there is a big collection tray that runs the length of the alliance wall under the goals. Now to figure out how to climb that pyramid...

To me, because it says "and," it seems like it has to be in the goal at the end of the match. I think that bit about crossing through the opening of the goal is meant to count discs that somehow hang out the edge of the goal.

Given this video (mentioned above) at 2:32-2:45, there is plenty of room for HIGH GOAL shots... looks like it's about 14-18" deep! The MIDDLE GOALs don't look as deep (~8" inches) but between the two MIDDLE GOALs, I'm sure they'd hold all the shots they'd get in a match!

Seems like a moot concern to me, based off those shots of the official field...

Re: Goal capacity

The goals in Manchester held a LOT of frisbees. I'm sure by Championships we will see those goals getting close to full but I would be very surprised to see half full goals at regional level.

The goal there is missing the bottom plate I believe. When I went into my CAD model they only are about 7 inches deep. Not a huge bin like that. Though I HOPE I am wrong.

Funny thing is that I originally wrote a post about the High goal, but then changed my response thinking they must have been worried about the pyramid goal... ::sigh:: thinking too fast :)

The only thing to note about that video is that the bottom of the blue high goal bin (red one shown here) is missing... (It was removed since it was hard to get the frisbees out of that level without a ladder) which might be what people are concerned about. However we did a handful of tests throwing into the top goal and didnt see any issues with them coming out at all. I only remember ever seeing one bounce out. The bins are reasonably deep and the chains do a good job dampening the frisbees.
