Goal capacity
In looking at the high goals I was struck by how shallow the recess for frisbees to land is. In my estimation you couldn't fit more than 20 frisbees in a goal. That could be a problem. What do you think?

Re: Goal capacity
I was wondering about this too. Hopefully someone who attended a kickoff with a field has tested this. If not, then hopefully we will be able to test this on our field soon.

Re: Goal capacity
There are only 6 frisbees that count in that goal...
Also, you can check out some of my photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kimsrob...7632447784120/ 6 frisbees shouldn't have trouble fitting in, though robots that climb will have to be careful not to touch those frisbees or they won't count if I remember the rule right(though look it up, I only did a quick scan). |

I have this concern too. With the discs being thrown at high speeds, they will just bounce out. If someone has access to a field, some videos would be nice. |

I had the same question about the HIGH GOAL. Thanks for the photos, Kim! Makes me slightly less nervous, but maybe someone has tested it specifically and can comment on bouncing out potential as the goal fills? |

Personally, I would just call them by their point value (1, 2, 3 and 5 pointer). Then there is no confusion. -Clinton- |
Re: Goal capacity
It looks like it wont be a problem.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp4cILBW-xM About 2:30 seconds in you see how once a disc enters a goal, it drops down into a large bin. Shouldn't be a problem |
Re: Goal capacity
I would be much more concerned about the capacity of the MIDDLE GOALs than the HIGH GOALs. The HIGH GOALs look to have a fairly deep bin, based on the pictures I've seen.

Re: Goal capacity
3.2.4.1 DISC Points
Points are awarded for DISCS SCORED in the GOALS per A DISC is considered SCORED in an ALLIANCE’S GOAL if any part of the DISC has crossed through the opening of the GOAL, is in the GOAL at the end of the MATCH, and is not in contact with any ROBOT from that ALLIANCE. GOAL openings are outlined in yellow in Figure 3-2 and Figure 3-3. Does this mean that as long as the disc has entered the goal that it is considered a point regardless if it bounces back out? |
Re: Goal capacity
This won't be an issue, there is a big collection tray that runs the length of the alliance wall under the goals. Now to figure out how to climb that pyramid...

Re: Goal capacity
Given this video (mentioned above) at 2:32-2:45, there is plenty of room for HIGH GOAL shots... looks like it's about 14-18" deep! The MIDDLE GOALs don't look as deep (~8" inches) but between the two MIDDLE GOALs, I'm sure they'd hold all the shots they'd get in a match!
Seems like a moot concern to me, based off those shots of the official field... |
Re: Goal capacity
The goals in Manchester held a LOT of frisbees. I'm sure by Championships we will see those goals getting close to full but I would be very surprised to see half full goals at regional level.
