Climbing sequence (was: Please help)

With the pyramid, do you have to go level 1, 2, then 3 or can you go to level 2 right away. Thanks XD

Re: Please help

Must climb in sequential order, 1,2,3

This link. You need it.

Specifically look at Rule 3.1.5.2.

Does level 0 count as one of the two levels that you are allowed to touch simultaneously?

Yes, level zero does appear to be a part of the climb sequece we must follow (0 to 1, 1 to 2 ...). So if you are touching the floor, the only other place you may contact the pyramid is somewhere in level 1, untill your robot is off of the floor.

The way I see it:
Two concepts.... the ZONE which is used for scoring.
Whatever zone the lowest part of your robot ends up in determines your score.

Points are awarded for the highest Level achieved for every ALLIANCE ROBOT that CLIMBS its PYRAMID. The Level to which a ROBOT has CLIMBED is determined by the lowest point of the ROBOT (in relation to the FIELD). CLIMB point values and Levels are defined in Figure 3-4.

Climbing. This has to do with contact with the PYRAMID only...
In the glossary the pyramid is defined as

PYRAMID: the Red or Blue steel structure on which ROBOTS CLIMB for points.

By this definition the floor is not part of the PYRAMID

So the rule states:

A ROBOT has CLIMBED its PYRAMID if it contacts the PYRAMID in

sequential order (Level 0, 1, 2, 3) during ascent and
no more than two (2) Levels simultaneously.

This would mean that you have to touch the pyramid first in the lowest section and then you can reach up to level 2 (while sitting on the floor which is NOT part of the PYRAMID) and pull yourself up. (even if you contact the lower bar you are NOT contacting more than 2 levels (of the pyramid) at the same time

The trick is what do you do then? The final 10 points of the climb is quite difficult to accomplish... The first 20 points... not so much...

Good luck!!

Please see my explanation above ... the floor is not part of the pyramid.
Please see the glossary for the definition of the pyramid.

Good luck!!

Interesting interpretation. If you are ont considering the floor a part of the pyramid then the climbing rule still states that you must contact somewhere in level 0 first right? (unless I'm misreading/interpreting). So would you then have to touch the base plate of the pyramid as level 0 first? In which case you still have to lift iff the ground before touching level 2. Hopefully this will be clarified in the team update comming soon since it has already caused so much confusion.

I was under the impression that the steel plate supporting the pyramid was part of it. There was mention of the 1/4 inch lip around the pyramid. I see level 0 as being that plate.

Re: Climbing sequence (was: Please help)

There is already a thread dedicated to discussing the rules regarding climbing here.

These points have all been discussed in that thread already I believe.

Level 0 is the entire floor, not just the plate.

Looking in the game manual at section 2.2.5, figures 2-7 and 2-8 and the description between them, its my understanding that the lip created by the floor protectors are what the GDC considers level 0.
