Rookies looking for alliance members (NYC)

Being rookies we feel that we should extend our circuits to each other :D . We will team up with anyone whose open minded and wants to extend their possibilities. Any tips or advice will be welcomed. Goodluck to everyone

One of the great things about FIRST is that it's a world-wide community. We have a heap of rookie teams here in Australia. If you would like to work with one of them, let me know.

On the other hand, there are even more veteran teams who are willing to help with not only robot building, but all the other parts of FIRST. What sort of "alliance" are you looking for?

Welcome to FIRST guys! One piece of advice that I can give you is that you get out of it what you put into it. If you show up every day and work hard, you will love it, learn tons, and make great friends.
Also don't be caught off guard when the regional whirlwind come around. The first time you attend a regional as a student or as a team things can get quite crazy while you're trying to figure out exactly how everything works, it can take some time.
Lastly, read the rule book! Make sure that before you do anything you read the game manual cover to cover so you know as best you can how not just the game will be played but how everything in FRC will be run.
If you want additional resources there are tons of teams that come to mind, 1114 simbotics in particular, that provide online presentations, design guides, building instructions, and more. Make sure you utilize everything you can to become a better team and awesome things will happen!

Good luck guys! Welcome to the best place ever!

There's a few issues our team is facing right now like what basic programming system that are used. None of us really have any experience.tips and advice from veterans would be awesome!

If you have no programming experience, I recommend giving LabVIEW a try. It's really easy to pick up, and the graphical interface is less daunting and more intuitive than a wall of text-based code. It comes with plenty of FRC-specific examples to help you figure out how to integrate any components you'd like to use.

If someone on your team does have programming experience, you can also use Java and C++ for a more traditional programming environment.

Would love to help....We have mentors and students on software with C++, Java, and Labview. Contact me by email and we'll get you set up with them either via Skype or some other method.

They can walk you through deciding what language will best suit your team's skills and goals and then help you get up to speed with the cRIO and supporting software and electronics/wiring

There are lots of excellent teams in NYC that will certainly lend a hand. We are on the other side of the Lincoln Tunnel, but will help in any way we can. We have a regulation pyramid in our warehouse and are there every night and all weekend. We are in Clifton, NJ. My students are still mastering LabView, but they know enough to get by. The mentors has additional LabView training over the holiday. We will be at the NYC competition.
