Retro flective tape
is there a rule any where against completely covering your bot with retro flective tape?
|
Re: Retro flective tape
Not sure if there is a rule, but it would surely be looked down upon as it is not in the spirit of first.
It is a fun idea though. :) |
Re: Retro flective tape
I would say R08 would make this illegal.

Covering your robot with retro-reflective tape would interfere with the operation of another robot as you become almost indistinguishable from a vision target. |

ok thanks that clears up that idea but it would be fun to see what would happen

Because the vision code uses shape information and not just color, it would likely be ignored. Notice that the driver's end wall has several large vertical stripes and the pyramids have tape on their edge and central pole. This photo was taken with my cell phone with the flash on. By again, it would not be allowed. The field is confusing enough to cameras and sensors without intentional deception.

Re: Retro flective tape
Greg, how bizarre: my browser shows the image thumbnail upside down, but the actual image right side up.

Re: Retro flective tape
Were we supposed to get a sample of the tape in the KOP?

Edit: They said it in the Field Tour http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0WXASVPAZY |
Re: Retro flective tape
Okay
Its good to know I'm not just hearing things haha |
Re: Retro flective tape
It's technically in the KOP, It's FIRST Choice. We can't forget that most of the KOP is virtual thus year

Re: Retro flective tape
Another thing to consider, this material is expensive.
If you showed up with your robot covered, you'd likely raise suspicions with your BOM. |
Re: Retro flective tape
The thumbnail is upside down on mine as well.
Path taken? It was snapped on a field in Manchester using my iPhone 4S, carried around in my pocket, emailed to gmail, copied from web page, saved to disk, and then uploaded to CD. Must have had a magnet in my pocket. Greg McKaskle |
