Telescopic Pneumatic Cylinders?
 

We are a rookie team and were wondering, in order to conserve space, if telescopic pneumatic cylinders are allowed. If so, what are the limitations, qualifications etc.

Wow, I didn't realize such things even existed. :o

I don't see anything in the pneumatic section of the rules (Game manual 4.1.10) prohibiting them, or specifying any limits on the number you can use. The usual rules for rated pressure, etc, still apply.

As the pneumatics rules do not explicitly define what constitutes a "pneumatic cylinder," this is a question to pose to the Q&A.

They are a cylinder and as long as they meet the pressure requirements there is no reason they would be illegal.

The only thing that you may get into trouble with is the cost ceiling of $400 per part.

They are out there, but often start around $1000 per unit. They are not against the rules. I spoke with a rep from a company that makes them this morning, and he was very familiar with FIRST. He said that he hears from multiple teams every year, and has never sold a single unit to a team.

To clarify, the are not against any rules about part function; they would, however, violate cost rules, as previously noted.

...And unfortunately, this is not the kind of part that, if you were to make one (not inconcievable) it would likely not be legal (unless you can prove the pressure rating).
