PG71 Gearmotor

Our team was looking to see what motors were legal and came across the PG71 Gearmotor am-0914 and didn't see in the rule book saying that they're not in the list of legal motors. The rule book says:

AndyMark PG am-2161

am-2194

That doesn't include the am-0914.
Is the motor legal because it came in the KOP but is not on the list of legal motors?

Re: PG71 Gearmotor

It says that the am-2161 motor is allowed, which is the motor used on the PG-71.

I have a similar question. The AM 2161 comes up as the motor used in the PG-71 and PG-188, but the motors are stamped as am 2193 not am 2194. Has anyone seen any info on this? I would just as easily go out and buy a couple am-2161 motors and mount them on our pg-188 gear boxes, but would rather put the money towards other things if these are OK given that our team has such a limited budget.

2193 is the part number for the PG-188, while 2194 is the part number for a PG-27 replacement motor + pinion gear.

Bottom line: All of these parts are legal:
AM-0915 - PG27 gear motor
AM-0914 - PG71 gear motor
AM-2193 - PG188 gear motor
AM-2161 - replacement motor for PG71 or PG188
AM-2194 - replacement motor for PG27

Thanks Nemo,

We may replace the motors anyway just because I would hate to run into an inspector who felt otherwise and wanted us to swap them out. :-( It would be hard to prove given the absence of listing in the rules.

I wouldn't replace the motors. If you want to buy a spare just in case one burns out, that would be a perfectly sane thing to do. But if you want to be extra prepared for inspection, print out these documents:

*Kit of parts checklist (shows that it's a KoP item)
*AndyMark product pages for the gear motor and the replacement motor.
*Rules page showing which motors are legal.

You aren't going to get hassled about this in inspection as long as you are knowledgeable enough to explain what product you're using.

The motor itself is what's legal. You are allowed to use any gearbox you want with that motor. That's why the rules reference the replacement parts motor instead of the product that also includes the planetary gearbox.
