Any Advice for a Beginner?

I am very much a beginner of First Robotics, and although I am willing to learn, I'm quite unsure as far as where to start. I am primarily a programmer, and any advice on where to begin or any tips on how to navigate the LABview software would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Madeline

Look at the tutorials on the Getting Started window, at examples in Getting Started/Support, and at the comments in the robot project sample code.

You may also find FRCMastery.com a helpful resource along with ni.com/frc.

Depending on your team's choices of mechanisms, you may want to master:
*Working with solenoids (climbing mech.)
*Camera/vision processing and servo control (shooting mech.)
*Programming a dashboard

Re: Any Advice for a Beginner?

Hello!

I am not a programmer, but I can help with general FIRST advice. My main thing is that you should be able to explain the robot to scouters at competition. Being a programmer, you should be able too, but personally, I always like it when the students can answer my questions. Knowing your robot and embracing gracious professionalism are good starters. If you're curious as to what's going on in mechanical or electrical, etc., take a five minute break and ask! Everyone likes when other team members are interested in what they're doing. I hope you enjoy the 2013 season and decide to stick with robotics. PM me if you're curious about anything else! (except programming... sorry)

Keep a cool head, communicate with alliancemates, and do your best to follow the directions of your coach because he will probably have better "eyes on" than you.
