Talon: How its made video

We have put together a "How it's Made Video" featuring the Talon. The video shows some of the processes used to assemble a printed circuit board. I hope you find the video educational and informative.

Nicely produced. It is good to see a How It's Made piece with an electronics theme.

That is a very nice video.

One thing that surprised me was the size of the MOSFET's for the talon. It appears as if surface-mount FET's were used -- am I correct? How many FET's are there per leg of the H-bridge?

Thank you for posting this, and for making a great product.

Now I kinda want to go flip a talon to see if there's the tested stickers, and I'll have to wait for the event that we somehow manage to kill a talon to open it and see the testing marks

Mike,
thanks for sharing this. Students and Mentors need to see more of how these things are manufactured.

Man, I wish our students had a greater interest in messing around with PCB milling as we have a brand new machine, oven, solder paste, etc. to do some mini design projects.
Its still sitting idle after we got a mini training for several days from a mainland trainer this past summer.

Very cool to see the production process. Thanks for slowing the action down so we can see what happens.

That was awesome! I applaud you (everyone involved) for designing the device, posting the assembly process video, and keeping the manufacturing in country!

Now I'd really like my team to pick these up for the season...

Thank you all for the feedback.

And yes the Talon uses surface mount FET'S. Each FET has an RDS on of only .8-1.2 milliOhms so only one per leg is required.

They are startlingly beautiful FETs: significantly better than what was available when we first started on this control system rev.

Yes, FET technology keeps getting better and better. We are currently designing a product that uses FETs that are basically a bare die on a metal slab capable of handling 300+ amps at 60 volts.
