May the Force be with us all

I heard about this article this morning and felt the need to share it with the robotics community. It is a really funny article but there are some really good points.

http://www.foxnews.com/science/2013/...te-house-says/

"We are living in the future!" Shawcross wrote. "Enjoy it. Or better yet, help build it by pursuing a career in a science, technology, engineering or math-related field."

"If you do pursue a career in a science, technology, engineering or math-related field, the Force will be with us!" Shawcross concluded. "Remember, the Death Star's power to destroy a planet, or even a whole star system, is insignificant next to the power of the Force."

Although I didn't read this particular article (something about fox news and bias, but that's politics :) ), I did read the Obama administration's official response to the death star petition found here. Although i'm often skeptical of any presidential administration's stance on any popular item, I feel like the Obama administration is really pushing towards scientific discovery, and programs like FIRST enable us to become scientists and engineers that will continue on the work that the current scientists and engineers are doing.

Blocking yourself from receiving information based on the source is another kind of bias

You should read viewpoints from a political spectrum you don't agree with to prevent creating an echo chamber of points you only agree with.

Also nice name!

Agreed 100% (especially the name part)

Though, there is perhaps a difference between reading viewpoints from a spectrum you don't agree with, and reading viewpoints from Fox. This article is perhaps the worst piece of scientific journalism I've ever read.

It's not the fact that it's a right leaning organization, but more that their journalism lacks credibility and often misinterprets facts and statements. It's just poor journalism. Don't get me wrong, I don't go around touting Alternet or RawStory to be the best examples of journalism. I just tend to try and get my news from sources that don't screw up bar graphs and sensationalize every word that the president speaks. I read a combination of NPR, bbc, and reuters. Anyway, that's enough politics for today. ::ouch::
