Encoders with CANJaguar

How do you initialize an encoder for use with CANJaguar? Say, for instance, that I have a CAN on channel 11, and I want to declare an encoder to work with it. Thanks.

Are you talking about an encoder plugged into the Jaguar itself, or one plugged into the sidecar?
