LabVIEW Running Slow

Whenever I start LabVIEW it starts extremely slow and runs even slower. It wasn't like this before and I just had to reinstall it. Thanks for any help

Re: LabVIEW Running Slow

Because a problem like this can be attributed to many different causes, I have a few questions that will hopefully narrow down possibilities:

1. How old is the computer and what is the model?
2. Do any other applications run slowly?
3. If it is a laptop, have you tried running LabVIEW while a charger is plugged in?

Re: LabVIEW Running Slow

It is an Alienware M17x R4 and I got it brand new from dell in November I believe. LabVIEW is the only program that runs slow and I never use my laptop unplugged unless I have to

What portions are slow? What are you comparing it to?

Re: LabVIEW Running Slow

Everything from starting is slow. I haven't even made it to the project explorer since this issue started, it freezes was to fast

Re: LabVIEW Running Slow

Does it freeze or run slow?

Can you open the task manager, launch LabVIEW, and report what you see with approximate times.

It is possible that something was not installed correctly, it is also possible that a virus scanner is taxing LV to death because of the number of files we touch or where the files are located. The task manager should help shed some light.

What happens as I try to load a project it starts loading it loads 68 files then stops. Task manages says its running and CPU usage is at 1% sometimes 2%

Re: LabVIEW Running Slow

Does the rest of the task manager show anything bumping up? Can you try with virus scanning turned off? If you let it go for a minute or two, does it improve?

I'm not aware of a common hanging point during load, but LV is a large and complex app, and for instance, it uses a database to cache compiled code on your hard drive. It could be that it is doing something that will be a one time hit. I'd love to be able to explain what it is, ideally demonstrate it to folks on the appropriate team and get them to correct it, but at this point I don't know enough about the issue.

What o you mean bumping up? It may have worked while I had virus off but when I closed AVG out it was loaded and its working for now

Re: LabVIEW Running Slow

I used the term bumping up to refer to an increase the CPU usage of some other process.

Re: LabVIEW Running Slow

No, it just floats at 1-2% unless I do anything else

Re: LabVIEW Running Slow

So, is it working fine now? Or do you still have an issue?

Re: LabVIEW Running Slow

For now it's working. I'm going to restart it and see what happens
Edit: Bad things, bad things happened. I'm now locked out again even after restarting my computer
Edit again: Now its working, it just waits until I'm doing something else

Re: LabVIEW Running Slow

In my opinion, you have a good laptop that should run Labview perfectly. I use mx11 r2 and it works great. I think it should be software problem because other software on your laptop work fine. First, right click on labview run as admin permission. If it still doesnt work. Try to install laptop on other computer.
