Re: Problem Imaging 8-slot cRIO

Could it be that there are no modules installed? i.e. do you have to have the modules plugged in the right slots in order to image the CRIO?

Re: Problem Imaging 8-slot cRIO

No, modules do not matter. The imaging tool will give feedback if they are wrong, but imaging doesn't care about modules.

The first thing I'd do is to disable the wifi on the computer, verify that no firewall is on, and try again.

Re: Problem Imaging 8-slot cRIO

We had similar trouble today. When we were reimaging, we chose a different team number so that the cRIO's IP would be different. The first time we tried, the tool changed the cRIO's IP to the new address, then lost connectivity. After trying many times, we found that we needed to change the IP address of the computer so that it would work with the cRIO's new IP. For example, if we started with the cRIO on team 123, the cRIO's address would be 10.1.23.2, and the computer would be 10.1.23.5. After you run/fail the imaging tool setting the robot on team 999, your computer's IP would need to be 10.9.99.5. Also, be sure to check the advanced menu in network adapter settings and make sure your network adapter only has ONE address. If it has two, it doesn't work!

Everything looks correct, but something is obviously wrong. Otherwise it would be working.

Does your computer not have a wireless network interface? I don't see one mentioned in the ipconfig output.

I assume you've tried simply rebooting. That fixed a network problem for me today.

The only clue I have to a potential problem is that the imaging tool error message doesn't actually tell you what your network adapter addresses are set to. That suggests that it isn't able to read something from the system properly. I doubt it's something as silly as the program being confused by the Spanish language, but if you have another computer with Windows running in English you might try using it instead.

Re: Problem Imaging 8-slot cRIO

We had the same problem with our original 8 slot cRio. I don't know what it is about this year, but we have never had this much trouble with it.

I would suggest turing off IPV6 on the adapter being used. The fact that it doesn't list an address in the error message is odd. The "unreachable" message means it's on the wrong ip address to me. I have seen the network address revert to something else after a reboot.

This is what we did to get ours to image today.

We shut off the wireless adapter with a hardware switch and then disabled it in the control panel (it still showed up).

Second, we also had to delete another internet address under the advanced setting of the ethernet adapter. I think it may have been added by running the driver's station on the development laptop.

We used a crossover cable between the laptop and crio, although I don't see any reason it wouldn't work with the router in between.

We set the internet address to 10.x.y.6 (x.y is our team number of course) and the mask to 255.255.255.0 as per the "Getting Started" guide.

Finally the student noticed that we had been running the 2012 verion of the imaging tool running. It was still on the laptop from last year. Running the 2013 version and entering the team number helped.

Firewall has been off the whole time.

Finally, with all that fixed, we were able to image it.

The cRio is howerver, acting flakey when we put robot code in it and run it, but that's a post for another day if we can't get it settled down.

Set the subnet mask on your laptop to 255.0.0.0 then try to reimage again

Re: Problem Imaging 8-slot cRIO

Thanks Alan.
Yes we tried rebooting, then we even tried installing everything on a different laptop. We were sure that was going to fix it!. No luck. The problem continued exactly the same. We tried with a different 8-slot CRIO, and no change. I verified we are running the 2013 imaging tool, since we installed the software from scratch. As I mentioned before, firewall is deactivated, as well as anti-virus (which should not have anything to do, but nevertheless we tried) . We tried with different regular and crossover cables.

We have not tried turning off IPV6, but im puzzled by the fact that we have the 4-slot CRIO re-imaged with no problem...

What could we be doing so different that other teams have been able to re-image the CRIO?. We are a team that has used the CRIo since it was introduced to FRC and its the first time we see this behaviour.

Re: Problem Imaging 8-slot cRIO

I'm pretty much out of helpful suggestions. Maybe do a careful search of your computers for another installed firewall? That's hit some teams before.

Re: Problem Imaging 8-slot cRIO

I've been working with 2470 this week, they have two 8-slot crios and one 4-slot crio. We have no problem dowloading code, running code or updating the image on the 4-slot crio but whenever we do anything with the 8-slot crio there is an incredible amount of communication errors between the laptop and the robot (wired or wireless) half the time we cannot connect to the crio.

I am going to work on some debugging this week, hopefully get wireshark up and running to see where the packets are being sent and received. Just know it sounds like you are not alone in this problem and if I find anything out I'll let you know.

Can you describe the communication errors in more detail?

Not any help, but just following up with another data point. Last night we tested our long tethering cable and it tested fine. ($50 tester that will do CAT5, Split Pair detection, and open short detection)

We also had many attempts where it did not work over wireless, hard connected to bridge, without success.

The only way we got it to work was direct connected with computer to cRio, and even when this was done, it wasn't 100% "normal", slower than in the past, but completed.

Re: Problem Imaging 8-slot cRIO

All i can tell you about the Communication errors is what has already been said in this thread but just to recap.
This is what i can do:
  • Connect to the cRIO using the imaging tools
  • Configure the IP on the cRIO
  • Connect to the cRIO using MAX, and verify that the IP configuration is correct
This is what i cannot do:
  • Format the cRIO using safe mode
  • Load a new image to the cRIO

Re: Problem Imaging 8-slot cRIO

and also, the error message i get is always this:
The cRIO IP address (10.22.83.2) is unreachable. Ensure that one of your computer's network adapters is on the same subnet. Your network adapters are currently set to the following:

(and no, i did not forget to copy the ip address shown for my network adapters, NO IP address is shown there)

Re: Problem Imaging 8-slot cRIO

Why not try using last years 2012 imaging tool and last years image to see that you can flash using that.

The 2012 tool (assuming you used this computer last year) should be in the:

C:/program files/national instruments/labview 2011/project/crio tool

The images would be in their default location. If you don't have last years tools I can provide them.

It looks like your CRIO doesn't have an image at all based on the figure.

Once you have version 43 of the image loaded from 2012, retry loading the 2013 image using the current image tool.

I know this shouldn't be the way its done, but who knows I'd say its worth a try.

Hope this helps,
Kev

Grasping at straws...

Click the Advanced button in the IPV4 properties and make sure there's only one address set on the Ethernet interface.
