Inventor tutorials

Hi all,

I would like to know if I am looking at the right tutorial material for Inventor. I have been going through the Built By Design videos and I'm starting to wonder if these are a few years old and if anyone is finding them useful. They are certainly a good starting point, but i'm finding them to be very brief and sometimes difficult to follow i.e. the music in the Content Center video drowns out the speaker. Of then the video skips over steps to speed up the video, but it is those steps that I really want to see...

What I would like to find is something similar to the Solidworks tutorials. They are text based, step by step instructions. And each step has a link which highlights in the tool which button is being used.

What would be even better is some instructions on how to build the supplied Andy Mark drive kit. I'm confident that if I could get through something like that, then I would be able to continue with the rest of my robot. I have done some tutorials on creating parts, but what would be more useful is knowing how to find and use the pre-made FRC parts.

I did see the email from US First which left me thinking that Phil Dollan's blog will go over assembly of the kit of parts, but i'm yet to see anything.

Also, there is a link on the Autodesk student resource page (Phil Dollan’s Blog and Webinar Series) which is broken... i assume the link should be this: http://firstautodesk.wordpress.com/

While i'm here :] the first video in Built By Design shows the Sketchbook tool. I tried to find this but it looks like the tool is no longer available. There does seem to be a similar tool on tablet tho... is there an updated video which covers early sketches as part of the design process?

Any suggestions of thoughts would be appreciated.
Also just some suggestions;
1. please update your videos
2. please create FRC relevent vidoes
3. please fix the links on the autodesk website
4. please let me know when Phil will be updating his blog

Thanks for your support,
Matt.

Re: Inventor tutorials

If you open up the "Getting Started" page in the ribbon of Autodesk, there is a tutorial button. This will take to to a very complete list of tutorials, that I used when starting out.

IMO the built by design tutorials helped me very much.

Also, you can download Autodesk Sketchbook (sorry, I do not have access to the link right now), I know because we were able to do this right before build season. So unless they changed that since December, I think it is just on the downloads page, next to inventor and fusion.

Good luck, and PM me if you need any Autodesk advice.

Is any one having trouble downloading the Build By Design files of the "Robot after chapter 2" and "... chapter 3"? The downloads appear to be of empty folders...

Also, the Super CAD download also contain a lot of empty folders. I'm guessing we should not be using these files?

Matthew,

Please check my blog. The Assemblies tab contains links to 2 videos.

Assembling the Base Chassis Part 1 of 2
Assembling the Base Chassis Part 2 of 2

If you cannot access them please email me directly and I will forward them to you.

Also, for the Built By Design video data sets. I should have access to them, so let me know what you need.

I will be posting a second webinar later this week, check the FIRST email blast for details.

I am working through your first video and I'm stuck on the step to create the 23" C channel. I figured out how to create the offset work plane, but when I use the split command, OK and Apply are greyed out in the split dialog. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Matt.

Matthew,

Here is a link to another thread with a video showing the work flow for work plane and split. This is for a STEP file, but the work flow is the same.
