Here's a picture of our robot's 30 point climb :)

Is it legit? I don't see how it did it by itself.

Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
I believe the polycarb is the device they use to reach up to the next level and then ratchet themselves up with the red strap to grab with the robot. Then they unwind the ratchet to reach up to the next level.
I like it a lot. |
Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
Well this created quite the buzz, didn't it.
|
Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
Would you be opposed to a small group of Bloomington students coming over to see how you guys did it? =O
|
Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
Do you realize how many people are not going to sleep tonight? :).
Here's my guess on how it works... Could it work this way? Polycarbonate is up with a cable or cables attached about 3 inches from the end. Drive under, pull up to pyramid cable towards pyramid. Start pulling the cable down and the polycarbonate goes on the other side of the bar. An angle is formed between the polycarbonate and the cable where the horizontal bar on the pyramid rests. As you wind up the bot is lifted. Get to a point where you rotate out or over the bar, two hooks that you hang from (or the bot goes up and over and hangs from). Release poly carbonate, then pull yourself up to the next level. We'll know for sure if they post a video. |

midnight release???
|
Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
It doesn't look like it will be an issue, but be careful to take into account the pyramid goal, it looks as if your robot is protruding into it in the picture. I'm not quite sure though.

Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
I'm a little skeptical. Would they REALLY have climbed with a robot with that many loose wires hanging out of the bottom? Maybe...

I think she meant that she's going to take a video of the next test, presumably after the team meets today. I'm dying to see it though.

Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
It looks like the level three rung of the pyramid is going through the frame of your robot, behind the C-Clamp and in front of the green rope (which I assume is just there for belaying purposes).
Looking forward to the video. |

where is the video?

I'm assuming this is a fake, and they just "nailed" it up on the third rung...I'm going to stop wasting time looking for the video :/

Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
It would have been nice if the OP was clearer that this was a joke. I'm sorry, but it is clear that his wasn't a legit 30pt climb.
|
Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
If so, that's pretty annoying. I wouldn't mind it it was just the photo (which is involves a manual C-clamp), but she said literally 5 minutes later (post 7) that she'd make a video. That's basically the opposite of making it clear that it's a joke. :\

I wouldn't worry about it much, folks. Maybe she got busy. Maybe she was trolling. Either way, if it impacts your life that much, you may need to reevaluate some priorities. :)

Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
Instead of questioning and asking for vids, take a close look at the pic and learn.
I found the winch mechanism, bent lexan, etc educational and inspiring.... looks like a test/proof of concept that will work. Clamp/extrusion is below the bar, you can see the shadow through the knot. |

My sister posted this she showed me the video and this actually works. She has the video but I don't plus we go to different schools so we are on different teams. It does work but I dont know when she is going to put it up.

Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
I trust WE ROBOT, I'm sure they'll post a video eventually... You might just have to wait until regionals :)

At this point in the build, it's pretty much too late for anyone to copy our design so it's less a concern of secrecy and more one of embarrassment. Every time we think we have it perfect, we run into another issue and it's driving us crazy. The concept is the same one we've been using since the first day of the season, but the actual implementation of that idea has been incredibly complicated. -Mike |

Hi you guys,
Sorry for not posting the video earlier (I've been so busy and I forgot to post it earlier). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5Hd...ature=youtu.be We have altered it a little bit since we made the video. Sorry for not posting this earlier |
Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
Thanks for keeping your word! Looks awesome! Plan on making it faster?

It appears that you need to articulate your center of gravity to do this hang. How are you planning to achieve that without someone holding it? |
Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
Nice! Glad to see it's not vaporware!
|
Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
Wow. Amazing concept. I really hope that you can alleviate some of these difficulties you have, because if you do then you will really have a great robot (not that you need me to tell you).
|
Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
Congrats! That's awesome.
|
Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
Nicely done! Is it all human controlled or is it "automatic" climbing?
|
Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
First of all - Congratulations!
This feat is a huge accomplishment. The 30 point climb is possibly the hardest challenge FIRST has ever thrown at FRC teams. I know there is still an amount of human "assistance" provided in the video's hang attempt, and it was not at competition speed, but to get even this far is a big deal. Secondly - Thank you! Whether it was your intention or not, your video provides a ton of useful insight for teams trying to perfect their own climbing mechanisms. You can clearly see there are many many little details that your team has taken into account to get the robot's centre of gravity to behave nicely as you climb, as well as the path of the hooks as they both extend upward and retract. The lower hook placement is critical as well. Well done! And good luck in the upcoming season! |
Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
Simply EPIC and Congrats!
I wish we were at that point in our build... |

Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
This is fantastic! Congratulations!
However, seeing an actual robot climbing from the inside, and seeing how little space is left in the top level for other 30pt bots is making me nervous. I guess alliances will just have to compromise and have some bots on the 3rd level and some on the 2nd? |
Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
How long is that video? 2 minutes? Hmmm...

Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
Very innovative!
How about putting the bottom latch points as two on the outside edges, just on either side of the Lexan? Congratulations, and my apologies for any doubts I had earlier. |

i dont think that pipping frame is 1" 1/2 OD if im seeing that right

Also, they're going to be a tight fit inside that upper rung with bumpers on. If they don't line up right at the start of the lift, they're going to be stuck with a 20-point lift. |
Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
My favorite part of this implementation is the lexan sheet to deliver the hooks up. That's simple and effective. Great work guys!

This may just make our team's season. Our team has been struggling with this exact idea. Many students saw the video and were greatly inspired.
Think you can do it in 12 seconds? We do. |

Re: WE ROBOT 2705 - 30 point climb
At the beginning of the season I challenged my students to climb in less than 10 seconds... I hope their design meets that challenge. But even if it doesn't, I know we have a great design.
With any luck, we'll be bolting the electrical board on my this weekend and start doing some real testing! |
