are any other teams using OpenG? was it worth the effort of getting it on all the programmer's PCs?

I've used it. There are tons of other libraries scattered around from researchers and integrators that predate OpenG.

I've used OpenG at work. I actually try to avoid it now, because its a pain in the butt to update it every time I get a LabVIEW update. I do however LOVE the JKI String-Based State Machine library.
