Alternatives to Andymarks 8mm key hub
With Andymark's 8mm key hub sold out, what are our alternatives? We're looking to mount a wheel to a CIM, but our options as far as gearboxes are concerned are limited because the piece we had fabricated to hold the motor doesn't provide room since we didn't expect to need a gearbox. So, what other systems could we use to mount without taking up too much room, or where else could we find an 8mm key hub besides Andymark? We would be willing to buy one off of another team if possible. Thanks.

you could buy a bigger one and turn an adapter. If you have a lathe this should not be to difficult.

This sounds like the perfect time to find a machine shop sponsor.
Alternately, you can buy one of AndyMark's 8mm shaft adapter like http://www.andymark.com/product-p/am-0588.htm or http://www.andymark.com/product-p/am-0472.htm and a different hub. |

http://www.andymark.com/product-p/am-0588.htm + http://www.andymark.com/product-p/am-0096.htm =
works in a pinch. |
Re: Alternatives to Andymarks 8mm key hub
You could try and purchase a flexhub flange (http://www.andymark.com/product-p/am-2445.htm) and a 8mm hub (http://www.andymark.com/product-p/am-flexhub.htm) the hub fits in the flange and the flange has the appropriate hole pattern for IFI and Andymark wheels.
Another option would be to modify an IFI planetary gearbox to accept the cim . Good luck from team 1325! |
Re: Alternatives to Andymarks 8mm key hub
Or make a shaft adapter. Made with a drill and a hacksaw. Or buy an 8mm one and drill out the other end for what you need.

We are looking for something similar since the normal hubs are sold out. |
Re: Alternatives to Andymarks 8mm key hub
You put the hex adapter inside the hub and put the 2 in a drill press. Drill a hole with a number 7 drill through both of them to the center hole then run a 1/4-20 tap through the 2 of them. You can then run a set screw through the 2 of them all the way to the CIM shaft.
Hope that helps. |
Re: Alternatives to Andymarks 8mm key hub
Commonly used AM hubs routinely go out of stock at inappropriate times during the build season. We noticed 250 hubs never go out of stock. So we decided to buy the necessary drill bits, reamers, key way and hex broaches to make whatever size hub required for the application out of them. We offer this service to the FRC and OCCRA teams in our local area. Check with established teams in your area to see if they could make a 8mm hub from a 250 hub for you.
