Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
Hello All.
It's been a long time since I've posted anything on these forums. I started back in 1998 in FIRST, and used to run a website called FirstRobotics.net The intention of the site was to create a pictorial history of FIRST Robots in one place online. I always got a lot of good feedback and thought it provided a good service to the community. Well, my career took off, and I really didn't have the time to keep it up. I have been thinking a lot about it in recent years, and finally was able to get it back up and running. I had let the web registration lapse, so now it has been re-born at FirstRobotPics.com I have a decent amount of pictures up there, but unfortunately had lost a bunch of my archives. There is a place for people to submit their own pictures, so if you have a better picture of a robot from a certain year, or one that is missing from the site please submit it. I have a lot of future ideas for the site, but at least it's up and running, the first giant step. Thank you all, and enjoy this new resource. Jason Rudolph |
Re: Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
This is really cool; there are pictures of our team on there that I've never even seen, someone must have submitted them ages ago. This looks like a great service for the FIRST community to have. Have you considered any sort of integration with The Blue Alliance?

Re: Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
I just uploaded a photo of our robot from last year, but it hasn't shown up yet. Is there some lag time or did I do it wrong?
|
Re: Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
It'll take a while, I have to approve and put into the right gallery. Thanks for the submissions!

Re: Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
I love it!
Is is possible for you to create a way for you to search for a specific team, and see all of their uploaded pictures for each year? EDIT: Realized there is a search bar on the home page =X |
Re: Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
If you type in a 4-digit number in the search box on the main page you will see all pictures of that team. I just need to work on the labels that appear in the search results.

Re: Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
This is fantastic. It's great to see that the site is up and running again AND that all of the old pictures are still around.

Re: Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
This is fantastic. The original firstrobotics.net was one of the resources that helped "teach" me how to design FRC robots. I remember spending hours and hours pouring over the old pictures, reverse engineering each robot, and trying to learn as much as I could about how they worked.
Thank you Jason for bringing it back! |
Re: Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
This is officially my new favorite website, going to show it to the students tonight!

Re: Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
This site is great! I spent like 2-3 hours last night looking at the pictures of a lot of the teams, especially the teams that were on Einstein in years' past.

Re: Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
Thanks for the feedback guys. I kinda wish I had been able to get it up earlier in the build season this year, as I always thought it was really useful to look back at successful robots from years that had similar game features. I have lots of ideas for the future of the site, and lots of people have been sending in new pictures already. Hopefully someday we'll have a picture of every robot that has competed in FIRST! It really is amazing to see how far it has come since 1992......

Re: Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
Loading photographs takes a long time, or doesn't happen at all... it has the red "LOADING" on top and doesn't show any photos. The internet I'm on should be loading the images in a maximum of ten seconds or so (even if it's something like 2000x3000 pixels). Is it just me?
Code:
Google Chrome 24.0.1312.57 (Official Build 178923) |
Re: Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
I do have to say some of the pictures are quite large, I have to work on that for some of them. That is probably the issue your having (there are a few that are 4mb)

Very excited to have the photos and site back. Jason, any way I can help you out? |
Re: Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
Awesome resource!
Totally forgot about this from several years back. |
Re: Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
I am definitely going to make another post in the next week or so, but it would be awesome if people could get a picture of each robot at the regionals they attend for the site. I used to do this at all the events I would go to, just walk around the pits and grab a picture. I'll be at the Orlando, and hopefully south florida regionals this year, so those should be covered. And if things go well, I may be at the championships as well.

Re: Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
I'm getting extremely slow load times, too. You need to set each picture to link to the large or medium size, not original. This will also save you bandwidth, too.
If you need help with this, let me know. |
Re: Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
Great website, I can see myself spending hours on here :D
Is there somewhere you would like us to report bugs though, I don't think there is actually a team "OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA" :P http://www.firstrobotpics.com/?s=OLYMPUS+DIGITAL+CAMERA Also a suggestion, if you have time I think a collaboration between you and www.thebluealliance.com I would make both sites more useful and the scouters would love you. |
Re: Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
Yeah, thanks for that. The gallery I sue sometimes takes EXIF data and adds it in the wrong place, so I have to manually remove it.
And yes, in the future I would love to get this integrated into more sites, like theblue alliance. All things to come in the future.... |

https://github.com/gregmarra/the-blu...nce/issues/423 The current idea is to pull the images from CD, but it would be cool to have them pulled from FRP, too. |
Re: Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
This is great I already uploaded my First two bots that I helped build 9 years ago as a rookie.

Re: Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
Is the site going to be updated to allow 2014 robot pictures?
|
Re: Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
I completely missed the return of this last year. I dearly missed the original firstrobotics.net and I'm glad to see the original pictures were preserved and are back online. Thank you Jason! And please let us know how the community can best support your efforts to preserve the photographic history of FIRST competition robots by team number and by year.

Re: Announcing FirstRobotPics.com
TBA would still love to integrate with this! Are you planning on any kind of API to expose these pictures to devs?
