Watch Out

I know that most of these desktop pictures are harmless, and they are just for fun. But some people may not like them. For example we have to use the navy logo with permission, and it can never be mixed with a commercial product. And this is what it is FIRST or Microsoft may disagree on. I know that some companies are very meticulous with their logo, and may not like it with a "conflict of interest". But just be cautioned that unless you get permission from FIRST and Microsoft you can do this, I would just keep them off CD, and exchange these via E-mail. Since these background pictures, is incorporated with the FIRST and the Microsoft logo, it may seem that FIRST is endorsing Microsoft, which it technically can't do without permission.

What Do You Use??

Hey,

What do you people use?? I have Photo Shop 5.0, and I can't get thoes overlays like you do. Plus, why is there that Windows XP on a lot of them??

Thx, Matt!!

yeah...

Kyle, I did think of that when I decided to put the FIRST and XP Logos on the desktop images. The FIRST Logo is there because, well, thats what the background is about - its a registered FIRST team. Further, at www.usfirst.org , the official FIRST site, the logo has no (r), (c), or TM....I agree that Microsoft might not like thier logo on the image, but recently, I've been adding in the TM and (r)...though I doubt that legally makes it any better. Anyway if CD gets anything from M$ or FIRST concerning problems with the images, I encourage Brandon to take them down immediately. Theres no point getting in a legal battle over a silly background....speaking of which... SPAM Team 180's background is done ahead of schedule.

Matt, Win XP is on a lot of them because that is my OS...believe it or not, I use these as backgrouds :) Also, Win XP is the best OS out there right now. I'm using Photoshop 6.02...which is the reason I got done so fast. I downloaded a new texture (that swirl look) and played with polar coordinates (remember those?) and ended up with this. Note the (r) and TM ;)

This is what I was talking about

Quote:

The FIRST Logo may be used by teams for activities, promotions including fundraising, T-shirts, newsletters, identification on their robot, Web Pages, etc.
* The FIRST Logo must be used in a manner that is positive and promotes FIRST.
* The FIRST Logo may not be modified and must be shown in its true form including its trademark colors (black & white are acceptable).
* It is acceptable to personalize the FIRST Logo for team use. However, this form must have the written approval of FIRST.
* Sponsors (corporate, university, etc.) may not use the logo in local or national advertising without the written approval of FIRST.
This is from the FAQ on making a web page. It doesn't specifically say it can't be used with a corperation but it seemed so strict that a unviersity couldn't use it in advertising without their permission.

I was hoping it wouldn't have to come to this, but it seems like its possible to have FIRST or the Microsoft Corporation object to the images. I just wrote an email to FIRST detailing exactly what the use of the FIRST Logo entailed and submitted links to the images. I removed all liability from chiefdelphi.com; further I acknowledged that if FIRST or Microsoft objected, the images would be removed as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the "Microsoft Copyright Permissions Request" form is unavailable as this time, but I'll keep trying. From what I've read on the site, it may even be permissible without written permission, but it is questionable. I'll post again when I hear from FIRST or Microsoft concerning the images.
