Final hours
Since Bag N' Tag is just a few hours away, how are all the teams out there handling it? anyone having to make drastic changes with there extra 6 hours or tomorrow?
|
Re: Final hours
Bag and Tag isn't until Midnight on Tuesday. There is still time.
|
Re: Final hours
Yeah. Don't scare us like that.
|
Re: Final hours
Bag N' tag is tomorrow night for a lot of teams in my time zone, you guys are on the other side of the country lol
|
Re: Final hours
Well, it seems as though our climbinging mechanism isn't working as it should. We may end up making a frisbee launcher with the remaining time...
|
Re: Final hours
Our kids kicked butt today, so at this point the list is fairly short. We need to mount the hanger, get the bumpers polished off, touch up the paint, clean up the pneumatics (and probably adjust it for weight distribution).
|
Re: Final hours
cool, our team just has to mount our bumpers and the guards to keep the Frisbee's out of our robot then we are done, we are planning on practicing most of tomorrow before we bag.
|
Re: Final hours
I'm curious if any teams are staying up and waiting to tie the bag at 11:59 just for funsies? Any plans?

Re: Final hours
We're actually mechanically done, with just some tweaks on the programming side that don't really require the robot. Due to how things work on the team, the robot's now residing at a mentor's garage to be bagged tomorrow. It'll stay there until Lone Star, where we'll load up the new code, slap on the signs, and start hitting the field and filler line on Thursday morning.
It's a bit of a change from previous years where we had a bit of a laundry list of things that had to get done on Thursday morning before we even got inspected. |

Re: Final hours
Make sure you have your belaying points installed, even if you have no intention to climb.
If you're feeling ambitious, like everything is handled already ;) , consider a way to keep from rolling on top of frisbees on the floor. The upside down ones can ruin your driving AND if you are carrying four already, pushing another one along the floor can give your opponents some undeserved points. Yes, you can avoid penalty by shooting one off into nowhere, but wouldn't a cowcatcher thingie be useful? It's not like there are any big bumps to go over. |
Re: Final hours
3 of our 5 sub-systems are getting re-made/re-designed tomorrow morning. Should be a fun day!
|
Re: Final hours
Our team had a drastic measure. We have to totally rebuild the shooting platform. Our shooter mechanism wasn't working well at all. We are switching wheels and remounting a lot of things.
We have a lot to do.... .:ahh: |
Re: Final hours
Not a whole lot to be done here. Mostly just programming the Autonomous and driver trials. Oh, and Spirit subteam is busy making skirts for everyone. 8) Animation needs to make adhesive vinyls for side shields. Team Integration is taking a well-deserved break after pneumatics headaches.

Hopefully we will be finishing earlier this year, we have a lot less left to do, depends on how much time our programmers need, and how long we can justify staying for driver practice. |
Re: Final hours
2471 is basically ready to go. We need to replace some cardboard placeholders (they don't really blend with the CNC parts all around them) and work on sticking on sponsor logos. My team really pulled together this weekend and got us into position to have some real fun at Portland in a few weeks.
Everyone should be proud of the robot that they have been working on these six short weeks. :) |

I won't spoil any details, but I can say that we are using every moment to notch up our abilities. I believe we have built a platform and strategy with a lot of potential. |
Re: Final hours
We're essentially mechanically done now, but we'll be making small tweaks up until bagging tomorrow.
Our electrical boards are wired, but nothing is wired *to* them, so we'll be doing that tomorrow as well. Which should give me a few hours to test the code and run some critical experiments to determine ratios, etc, as well as PID tuning. We're cutting it closer than I would have liked, and we won't really get any driver practice, but it's our 3rd year and still a massive improvement over last year. I'm not complaining  |
Re: Final hours
We're done and have been practicing nearly full-time since Friday. Just doing our community presentation tomorrow and sealing it up.
|
Re: Final hours
We just have to open up the KoP, assemble the C-channel frame, put together the transmissions, set up the belt drive system, [omitted for brevity], mount our climbing device and eyehooks, make bumpers, and tweak Vision targeting.
|
Re: Final hours
We could bag as-is, but we're making much needed improvements to our loading system to prevent jamming, and trying to more securely mount our wheel treads, as they slip off. Other than that, tomorrow will be spent doing driver practice.
|
Re: Final hours
Getting all the sheet metal re-cut for our robot, and essentially building an entire robot tomorrow in 12 hours to bag.
Why? Weighed at 132 lbs. Sigh. |
Re: Final hours
Our team decided tonight to scrap the climber idea because of weight issues. We used actual pipe wrenches to grab hold and torque our robot paralleled with the pyramid. So We're hoping to be done with shooter tweeks by 4:00 AM. And then we'll be training driving and practicing until about 9:00 AM. That's when our sponsors will be coming for an open house. And we'll continue driving until 11:59 PM.
|
Re: Final hours
We have the robot mechanically and electrically finished aside from sponsor stickers, programming has autonomous finished and has to add 1 more button to driver control for a last minute cylinder. We've already tested driving each of our systems and just need to get our drivers some stick time. We're one frustrating Jaguar issue away from a robot we could inspect first thing Thursday morning and practice with. Unfortunately we've been at that point since 4 PM yesterday. Hopefully it got fixed after I left last night...
|
Re: Final hours
The mechanical and electrical teams have been frantically building and wiring since they started putting together the robot a week ago. It was looking good when I left last night.
|
Re: Final hours
Team 4269 is looking pretty good. I put 30 hours in during the Presidents' day weekend. We should be done pretty soon.
|
Re: Final hours
Last night we learned that in the epic battle with the concrete shop floor that VexPro hex shaft powering a mechanism will lose in spectacular fashion. Climbing the pyramid isn't the issue, having an inverted axis so the robot tries to rotate through the floor is.
Should be doing a final climb test with the competition bot and then pull some components for withholding before we bag it. |
Re: Final hours
I believe for the first year in about 10 years we actually aren't building or modifying, or swiss-cheesing, or any sort of frantic, pull-your-hair-out, last minute freak out, irrational sawing of component off the robot, maneuvers this year. We can actually do a little bit of driver practice with the fully complete robot. Somebody pinch me.....
|
Re: Final hours
Well, hopefully we'll finish our shooter in time to wire and program it...
And our drive train still needs some work... And our electrical board is a mess... But other than that, we're done! |
Re: Final hours
Check your wiring carefully, just realized we used 14 gauge instead of 12 for the cim circuts. Re-wiring here we go. :ahh:
|
Re: Final hours
Got to completely make a new loader/hopper system after school then get it to programming. we'll wind up with 3 or 4 people staying to midnight. YAY::safety::

Re: Final hours
We did our community presentation last night, today we have to finish the side panel artwork, find that orange light and install it, figure out where to put the camera (for driver viewing of the field), make longer hooks to hang with more easily, and see if we can get the game disk jamming problem under control. So, we should be ready to bag by 8 pm
