30 point climb!!!!!!!!!

Here is our robot climbing to receive the 30 points. We are very excited this season. I'm the one driving by the way.

Re: 30 point climb!!!!!!!!!

Very cool, didn't think we'd see one of these this year. Does the pipe fit into the wheel somehow to keep you centered?

beandip3160 19-02-2013 10:46

Re: 30 point climb!!!!!!!!!

Yes it does. The wheel is also kept inside before the match to fit size specifications.

This is very impressive, nice design.
Good luck this year

Re: 30 point climb!!!!!!!!!

Very nice! What actuates the arms?

Re: 30 point climb!!!!!!!!!

Pneumatics for the tilt and gearboxes for the extension.

Re: 30 point climb!!!!!!!!!

I love the design... I really wanted to do a corner climber this year, but the team overruled me and we're going up the side. Good job!

I really like that design. Can you make it faster?

My favorite part about corner climbers is how easy it is to score a 20pt dump once you're up there. Great job guys!

That's the plan.

Our team is doing a very similar design with conveyors and chain ;)

Yeah. We have a brake but we were having issues getting the sequence down for it to actually work. I also paused for like 5 seconds halfway through. our goal is 45 seconds. Any less than that is awesome extra time.

Did you guys use a custom wheel or a COTS wheel? It doesn't look like a standard wheel, or are you guys using a wheel hub?

The wheel we fabricated ourselves. We fabricate a lot, not much of it is COTS.

Re: 30 point climb!!!!!!!!!

Wow, really impressive, and looks very stable.
Is the big wheel solid, with a concave outer profile, or is it just an under-inflated tire?
Could you automate the climbing sequence for faster speed?

Yes it is solid, made out of some kind of plastic. We were thinking about automating the sequence so that at competition we would look awesome just standing back not touching the controller with our arms crossed.:)

Re: 30 point climb!!!!!!!!!

If you automate it, I strongly recommend including a safety switch - force one of your drivers to hold a button or trigger down while it climbs, and if they let go it stops where it is until they push it again. That'll let you easily stop it if something goes wrong, instead of standing there watching it climb to its doom.

Re: 30 point climb!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I was talking to the mentors and we decided against automating it. There are many factors at play.

How difficult is it to align? Especially from 30+ feet away and the risk of touching non-sequential zones with those hooks.

What do you have driving the wheel?

Nothing. It just rolls. The arms propel the robot upward. Nothing else.

We are going to be using a camera to line the bot up. Otherwise it isn't. The distance does affect how well we can see the hooks though. We were wondering if we could take binoculars down to the playing field.

Wow, it looks really solid guys! The Ninja Munkees can't wait to compete with you in OKC! Do you guys have plans for autonomous mode?

Re: 30 point climb!!!!!!!!!

Nice! Our team got to the second rung, but we changed our design to guarantee the 10 points for the first rung instead. Our first design was very similar to yours, but we had technical issues.

Yes we are actually a shooter bot as well.
