2084: C Scorpion

General specs
  • 120 pounds
  • Dedicated 30 point climber

Drivetrain
  • 2010 FIRST KOP wheels (rubber)
  • CIM attached to AndyMark Wormbox (1:16)
This might be taken out to save weight.

Climber specs

Per claw:
  • 1 CIM attached to a BaneBot P80 gearbox (81:1)
  • Total reduction of 871:1
  • Approximately 740 ft-lb of torque (more than a Chevy Silverado)
  • Approximately 1,500 pounds of force on each of four steel tabs
  • Servo actuated lower tabs for disengaging

We're worried about pulling apart/crunching FIRST's pyramids at the competition. We've had trouble with our welded steel practice pyramid; I don't want to see how a pyramid like the one at the Nashua week zero competition will hold up :ahh:

How fast can you get the 30 point hang? It looks really cool!

We've never had access to a full pyramid so I can't give an exact number, but the math says about 1:20 (12 seconds per flip + 8 seconds for adjustment). That number seemed fairly accurate on the flips we were able to do on our practice pyramid (and that time was at ~40% power!)

This will be entertaining to watch every match. I hope the pyramids hold up to the abuse they'll see this season.

This looks awesome. Love the flippers, and I LOVE that you may take out the drive train to save weight.
Hopefully all the pyramids will be dimensionally correct and the spacing won't confound your grapplers. That would be a big shame.

Ingenious!
I apologize in advance for asking such an annoying/obvious question: :o
Everything fits within a 54 inch cylinder, right?

Barely!

This is an awesome take on a corner climb technique. Something to possibly think about between now and competition is if there's a way to add a top goal dumper to the design that allows that extra 20 point scoring punch once you get to the top. Obviously, weight is a factor, so whatever you'd possibly come up with should easily fall within the 30 lbs allowance to bring with you. Just something to think about that would really make it stand out and maximize the scoring potential with a little more outside the box thinking before the competitions. A guaranteed 50 points would be insanely valuable to any alliance. Regardless, this is still an awesome design! Congrats and good luck!

Or mount a COTS fan on the top.
