Ultimate Scout in App Store
The Swartdogs are glad to announce our 2013 scouting app is now available in the App Store. Search for "Ultimate Scout". The saved match data is in a CSV format and can be sent via WiFi or iTunes sync to a computer.
The app support link on the App Store provides the details of the data format and example data. Through the process the 3 students and 2 mentors on our scouting app team learned a lot about iOS app development and App Store submission. I might as well answer the first question now - sorry but we have no plans for an Android app. |

I downloaded your app and it looks very user friendly. Thanks for the hard work and for letting us use it!

Re: Ultimate Scout in App Store
I started this tool on my wife's ipad just to check it out. here are some scattered observations.
hitting the no show nets an incomplete - I say it's complete, just no data, needs a flag meaning "don't look any further than this." I expected some sort of score calculation for the team based on the counting done on other screens. Maybe you're expecting this to be done by the receiver of the downloaded data. Usage note/question: it seems that you're expecting to have matches and teams pre-loaded so that observations can be done as matches unfold. consistency of the match structure should be performed. e.g. more than 6 teams in a match, more than 3 on an alliance (when&if implemented). Looks like 6 people needed to cover each match? no concurrency is offered for entering more than one robot's scores at a time. entry of an alliance color for each team in the match will help cross-check results. this is why wins can be claimed for any given match with differing alliance scores. |
Re: Ultimate Scout in App Store
Did the students ever look into harnessing the CoreBluetooth capabilities of iOS 6? You could then write another app to manipulate the information right on the spot, and could hold a backup of the information on both the scouter's device, and a central device. What apple has done with Objective C really allows any inspiration for a scouting app to happen, you just have to be inspired to make it.

Re: Ultimate Scout in App Store
I have to say I love this app! There's a chance we'll be using it this weekend for GSR, if we do ill let you know how well it works.

Re: Ultimate Scout in App Store
The associated Excel spreadsheet is now on our team web site.
http://525swartdogs.org/AppSupport/Scouting_app.html The app was designed for a person to record the performance of a team throughout the match. They now can use the app instead of many sheets of paper. All analysis is done in the spreadsheet. After watching matches yesterday and seeing the difficulties teams were having with loading Frisbees at the feeder stations, we realized we could have had a field to record the team's performance there as well. We're busy getting ready for Northern Lights right now so any changes may not get done for a while. |
Re: Ultimate Scout in App Store
Any thoughts and making it a HD app, so it works on the Ipad?

Re: Ultimate Scout in App Store
Next year if we find there are enough students with iPads we will consider an iPad version also. Finding 6 iPod touches we can use is already not always easy. This is our third year to make a scouting app but the first time to get it in the store. In previous years we deployed the app to our team members' devices using the limited number of developer licenses. Having the app available in the store will be much more convenient.
