We were thinking about coming (trying to come) this year, but found out that we couldn't. Would have been the first team from Louisiana! Will see some of you at Redstick Rumble, but wish we could be there!

It would have been great to have you but hopefully we'll get a few more Texas teams to come to Red Stick too.

Re: 2013 Texas Robot Roundup

The following email just went out to TRR teams:

Texas Robot Roundup is now just a month away and I have lots of important information for attending teams! PLEASE have one team representative respond to the following SURVEY - http://goo.gl/L3T0Z - by Wednesday, July 3rd so that we can get counts on a number of important topics discussed below.

SCHEDULE:
You can find an up to date TRR schedule here: http://www.andersonrobotics.org/robot-roundup/schedule/
Teams will have 7 qualifying matches at TRR 2013.

HOTELS:
If your team is still in need of a hotel, Holiday Inn (the hotel closest to the School (~1 mile) is offering a special for teams: $99 for Kings and $109 for two doubles. Please let me know if you would like our rep's contact info. Additionally, the committee put together a quick list of nearby hotels and phone numbers. Send me a quick email if you would like this information or if you have any questions about different parts of town.

MENTOR TOURNAMENT (+ Canned Goods Drive):
The 2013 Mentor Tournament will take place on Friday, July 26th starting at 4:30pm. Teams will be allowed to compete with any FIRST legal robot (i.e. it DOES NOT have to be the robot your team uses at TRR). You can email us for any questions regarding this option. We will start immediately with alliance selections and play quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals. Picking rank is determined by the number of CANNED GOODS your team contributes to the host team's (ausTIN CANs) annual Austin CAN food drive. Alliances may end up being comprised of 2, 3 or 4 teams based on the number of interested teams. The team must have checked in by 3:30pm to participate (contact me if you have concerns). Drivers and human player must be adults (must have graduated high school in 2012 or before); the coach can be either a student or an adult. Drive teams can come from multiple teams. Please indicate your interest in the linked survey.

SKILLS CHALLENGE:
The Skills Challenge will take place on Friday, July 26th this year (instead of Saturday) at 3:30pm. We are presently finalizing the rules, but are hoping to provide you with a Challenge that will help teams show off all their different Skills. Please indicate your interest (not commitment) in the linked survey.

TEAM SOCIAL:
The committee is planning a great Team Social for the evening of Friday, July 26th, starting at 7pm (end time TBD) onsite at Anderson High School. There will be snacks and drinks, music (potentially live), possibly some karaoke and games. Please indicated your interest in the linked survey. Also, we are looking to have pre-orders for dinner for teams attending the social. Details are still being finalized. Please indicate your interest (not commitment) in pre-social pre-order dinners in the linked survey.

VOLUNTEERING:
We're looking for volunteers to help with Field Reset and the Practice Field! Please send any interested students, parents, mentors, etc. to the following link to register: http://www.andersonrobotics.org/robo...-registration/
Volunteers get a t-shirt, meals, and lots of gratitude for their help!

WORKSHOPS/PRESENTATIONS:
We have a number of great workshops that we're preparing for teams. The schedule is still being determined. As of right now, they will likely include:
  • Advanced LabVIEW: Robot Simulator, Vision, etc (National Instruments)
  • Panel Discussion with Historically Successful TX Teams (1477, 118, etc)
  • Team Sustainability (359)
  • Awards (3847 & Alamo/Lone Star Judges)
  • Robot Design (2468)
Please indicate your team's interest in the linked survey.

I'll be sending out more details about the Skills Challenge, Awards, Workshops, and more next week. As always, please let me know if you have any questions! We look forward to seeing you all at TRR 2013!

Teams. please remember to bring their own safety glasses - we will not have a supply to loan out. All other FIRST pit rules apply.

Special Tournaments & Canned Goods Drive:
The rules for the TRR Skills Challenge are finally here (see attachment)!
Additionally, please remind your team to collect canned goods to donate to the host team (ausTIN CANs - 2158) food drive; if you participate you will be directed to the canned goods drop-off area when you check-in. This drive will determine alliance selection ranking for the Mentor Tournament.
When you check-in at TRR, you will be able to sign up your team to compete in the Skills Challenge and Mentor Tournament. Both are optional. We're holding both on Friday this year (see schedule).

Workshops:
On Friday and Saturday, attendees have a chance to go to a variety of workshops, presentations, and meetings designed to inform, support, and inspire your teams. While the times still need to be finalized, these are your opportunities:

TRR Trading Post:
Teams are invited to participate in a fundraising opportunity - the TRR Trading Post! Click the link to read more details and apply: http://goo.gl/4Be8I

  • Gracious Professionalism
  • Play of the Day (an retro FIRST award that we've enjoyed at TRR since the first year)
  • Safety
  • Team Spirit
We have one special award Judged by a few Alamo and Lone Star Judges: the Mentor Recognition Award sponsored by National Instruments. Nothing needs to be done by your teams in advance for these awards. When you check-in on Saturday morning, your team will receive an awards ballot, a mentor award brief essay prompt, and instructions.

Pre-Orders:
We are finalizing some food (Friday dinner and Saturday lunch) and t-shirt pre-order options. If things work out, I will get you the details early next week.

At the end of next week, I will send out an email that will include attachments of some very important instructions and documents for your teams. Please make sure that this email address (robotroundup@gmail.com) is added to your address book if you haven't done so already so that my email with attachments does not end up in your spam folder!

As always, let me know if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you all in just two weeks!

Andrew,
no problem for mines!
Just double checking.
Will workshops be in a classroom? How large/how many people?
AV projector available with speakers?
I will bring my own laptop but need to know how much handouts to bring.

Thanks,
Glenn

It will be an auditorium with a projector & speakers. We don't have a head count yet but we might be able to put together a workshop survey for all teams attending TRR.

I will send out an email today with more details
Thanks for presenting Glenn.
