Disk Life?
With the variety of shooter types this year (different wheel construction, treads, contact area, rpm, compression...) and 100+ disks in play at a competition, has there been much degradation in the disks during the course of a regional? As a followup, are field personnel introducing new disks on an as needed basis?

Re: Disk Life?
The discs seem the most sturdy game pieces I have ever seen. Few if any seem to be getting switched out except when teams take them back to the pits with them and they have to go get another one.

The worst one I've seen so far is in the attached picture. This was from Lake Superior. I believe it got jammed in a team's shooter. This one was replaced.

Re: Disk Life?
At Detroit we only switched out one disk that had some scraping on the side; the rest of the disks stood up a lot stronger then expected.

Re: Disk Life?
Each regional after week 1 is given 30 new disks. At GTRE, we repalced 30 with new disks for the start of eliminations.

Re: Disk Life?
I noticed even with our "gentle" shooter some plastic flakes coming off.
See video at 22 seconds for flakes hitting the carpet. They did switch to some new disks for the start of eliminations, and a couple teams claimed it made some difference for them which they had to adjust for. |
Re: Disk Life?
What was the reasoning for GTR East using all 30 replacement discs? did they have that many warped, cracked, or peeled discs? Or was this more for aesthetics?

Re: Disk Life?
Aesthetics. We replaced the 28 field frisbees, so that the field looked pristine for the start of elims.
The same was done last year for the basketballs, replace as many as we had available with new for the start of Eliminations. |
