Food recommendations in St. Louis?

Hey, St. Louis CMP veterans!

Can anyone make a recommendation for an eating location that can take a 30-person team? Looking for a decent lunch or dinner buffet/a la carte. Even something along the Transit rail a reasonable distance outside of the city center.

Side note: any other teams staying in the Crowne Plaza, Downtown? Any word on this hotel?

Signed
CMP Newbie

Thanks

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza in 2011. If you have a big group just be prepared to wait in the lobby for hours until they get your room. (At least, we had to.) There is a TGI Fridays close by along with a few local pizza/pasta places. I do not remember exactly what we ate and when, but I know one night we sat in the stadium and ate these little dinner cartons that were being given out. (They had soda, water, a sandwich, and a cookie.) For breakfast, I would skip the Crowne Plaza breakfast and go to the Starbucks, it is on the way to the stadium. I hope this helps, and go play crazy defense on someone else at CMP ;)

Pappy's Barbecue.

Best Barbecue i have ever had. (I am from the Pacific Northwest, but still.)

Be warned they sell out of the hundreds of pounds they make each day at about 3-4 pm. Earlier on weekends.

Seriously, Go there. You won't regret it, and you might see me there!

It might just be another burger joint, but I loved Hardee's. Reminded me a lot of Harvey's, both in name and taste.

(In deep announcer voice) That delicious, smoky taste is sure to leave your taste buds wanting more within seconds of every savoury bite. Come to Hardee's today and feel your FIRST true meal.

...Anyway, it's right down a street perpendicular to the street that the Edward Jones Dome is on, right next to the park.

Yes Pappy's is awesome, but when they run out of food, they close, so go early. The U-City Loop might be out of your way, but, if you want really good food, go to one of the many restaurants there. I would personally recommend Fitz, Blueberry Hill, and Mi Ranchito.

Consider contacting the nice folks at the St. Louis Convention Bureau for advice. I work with them at the event and they are eager to help.

My favorite restaurant in St. Louis was the Waffle House by the airport (we don't have any in Rochester).

Find an Imo's Pizza. Get several pizzas. There's one within a short drive; there's also one in the same direction as the Hardee's mentioned before, but across the park from it and down towards the river a block or so. (Come to think of it, TGI Friday's is up the street a block or so from the Hardee's.)

Oh, I totally forgot to mention that the Crowne Plaza has an Outback Steakhouse located in the lobby. It is right next to the lounge area when you walk in. Usually it you get a free entree per room, but I would check if they changed their policy. There is also some other great restaurants located across the street at the Hilton. You technically aren't allowed to eat there unless you buy a room, but just have your students sneak in as groups of 4 or 5 and you'll get right in. I hope this helps!
(Jesse W. wanted me to tell you this little secret.)

I'm so sorry. I don't understand how someone could live without Waffle House.

We have Tim Horton's. Apparently they think we're Canadian.

Waffle House doesn't have the global consistency of a chain like McDonald's. Each instance has its own level of quality. In my experience, most are fine, a very few are great, and the disappointing ones exist in greater quantity than one would expect from a normal distribution.
