I think it would be really cool to see more changes that affect how the drivetrain works, for example, floor materials that are much more gripping or textured to give it more of an "off-road" style of play.

I really want a game with a uneven and changing playing surface (like maize craze). Just think the whole field covered in golfballs (in first colors of course) This would make a really interesting game and there are lots of things you could do with the game objective.

Because nothing says safety like carrying a 150lb robot across a field covered in golf balls. |

I have a great idea! Surround the field with a 12" high barrier, then pour in about five hundred bushels of corn and rake it smooth ....

Re: Cool future games
I would love to see the return of holding as many game pieces as you are dumb enough to try. Prior to 2007 this was the norm, but in recent years you've only been allowed to hold unlimited game pieces in 2009. If I think I can score 3 tubes simultaneously, magazine up 45 frisbees, or carry a bunch of foam basketballs, why not let me try?
There was no limit on how many tetras you could carry in 2005, and some teams did multiple (85's was super cool), but the game was open to both kinds of robot. I guess you just have to have some kind of built in weight (tetra) or volume (ball) limit, but I would love to see some of the huge ball collector nets from 2004 make a comeback. I get that with some games you've really got to have the limit to make them work well, but I still think it'd be fun to build mechanisms that do a whole bunch at once. |
