In 2002 through 2004 the divisions were released the Tuesday 9 days before the beginning of the championship. That ended up ranging anywhere from before the last regional ended (2003) to 10 days after the last regional ended (2002).

In 2005, the divisions were released on a Monday, 10 days before the beginning of the championship (9 days after the end of the last regionals).

In 2006, the divisions were released on a Friday, 13 days before the beginning of the championship (13 days after the end of the last regionals).

In 2007-2009, the divisions were released on a Wednesday, 8 days before the beginning of the championship (3-4 days after the end of the last regionals).

In 2010, the divisions were released on a Thursday, 7 days before the beginning of the championship (4 days after the end of the last regionals)

In 2011, the divisions were released on a Friday, 13 days before the beginning of the championship (6 days after the end of the last regionals)

In 2012, the divisions were released on a Wednesday, 8 days before the beginning of the championship (4 days after the end of the Michigan and MAR championships).

Once your F5 key wears out, just replace it with a different F key!

Why? By hitting F5, or because you sprayed some drink across it when you laughed after seeing 148's web page?

True, it's not like I ever use F6 anyway.

For curiosity, what was different about 2011 that let them do them so much earlier?

The last page states that teams that qualify from Michigan must register at the aforementioned time.

Regardless of the document, registration for St. Louis CMP closes the Tuesday after the event you qualify in. I'd factor in one more day for teams that get in off the wait list or a ranking team that qualifies from Michigan due to another team that does qualify choosing not to go.

Championship moved a week later that year and there was no Week 7, which game teams an extra week to prepare.

Nobody really knows. Used to be fairly simple: sort the teams by number, then every fourth one is in the same division (1, 5, 9 in Archimedes, for example). A few years ago, they scrambled it so well that nobody could predict the divisions. And nobody's stepped up and said they've figured out the divisions before they were released since then.

If you click on those Division Team Lists, it brings you to last years'. So yes, it is a trick :p

*Also, if you click on the 2013 Team List, that just brings you to all of the teams currently signed up for World Champs this year, not separated into any divisions.

The guy behind FRC Megaphone has created a division notifier!

Only one team per phone #, so choose wisely - but then you'll be texted as soon as divisions are released!

http://divisions.frcmega.com/

Side note - If you don't already use FRCMega, you should for Championship (FRCMega.com) - I have used it almost every week to follow friends' teams, and it works like a charm.

Hallry,

Thanks for the confirmation. I did notice that 340 (who is not attending this year) was on the Newton Division. I thought it was too good to be true!

Spam? What year is it...?

No, Megaphone and Division Notifier (or any other FRC service I build in the future) won't send you spam text messages, and your phone number will never be given out to anyone. I build these services for the community, not to sell phone numbers.

Yea, you know, SPAM, 180? haha, yea what I meant was were the numbers given out somehow? I didn't think that you would do that to us, it was just odd that just an hour after I signed up I started getting texts about testing iPhone 6's and stuff.

102 per division also makes it a 17 match cycle count and no need for surrogate matches, if you went less teams you would have to go down to 96 teams(384 total teams) in each division to not need surrogate matches. We also don't have space for 432 teams (108 teams in each division)

I will say that HQ not following the removal of merit bids from the pool by Week 2 or 3 at the latest and inviting off the waitlist accordingly, they have put themselves and teams in a sticky situation. I imagine a number of teams are getting the call and having to turn it down. On 422, it took a tidal wave of sponsor support, parent involvement, and school administration bending their own rules in a span of 36 hours.

This may cause complaints by some teams, but couldn't they just use 396 teams and have 2 divisions with 102 teams and 2 divisions with 96 teams?

Planning ahead is not unreasonable. A number of teams scheduled their trip to the Championship months ago, having no idea if they'd actually be going. It's easier to cancel a school field trip at the last minute than to try to get one approved on short notice.

They could and if they don't get the teams I can see them doing it. I told my team to not expect divisions until tomorrow and Monday at the latest...

FIRST can't make teams go and they can't start telling teams they can't go now they've signed up, to make the divisions "equal". No body complains that each regional/district has different amounts of teams. As long as each division got the same # of matches I don't have a problem with uneven team counts in the divisions.

Personally i have no problem with it either, but i was unsure of if FIRST would have a problem with that. It would make the most sense, because getting two more teams to attend is a lot easier than 14 on this short notice.

The championship event is a meta-game of inches. People will complain about unbalanced/unequal divisions, whether you think it's silly or not.

That's a fair point. If both sides planned ahead, there would be less of a scramble altogether.

Well, tbh, is there really a need for divisions to be released this early? Besides for pre-scouting purposes, what other advantages does knowing your division give you?

also i would think anyone going must have thier robot shipped by thursday at the latest, unless FIRST allowed them to transport it themselves. 3130 a friend of my team got in on the wait list. It take a long time to pre-scout 100 teams...

Back in 2010, I believe 1732 added an autonomous mode to block 469 from the tunnel after the divisions were released. This year, I could see teams building a tall FCS-blocker if they find themselves in a division with some of the best tall FCS.

While that may help a bit to have it early, it really only takes $5 in pool noodles and 10 minutes to make an efficient FCS blocker...

Fair enough. I definately agree that it can help knowing who is in your division early on, especially with 100 teams in it, i was also just trying to show the other side.

pre-scouting need for sure...but more so for me it's just the anticipation, the not knowing that drives me nuts :)

you can look at the other teams that are in your division and start coming up with strategy for the competition.:)

Both "Are Divisions Out Yet?" and the FIRST website are down now it looks like. Way to go everypony! :P

I am super excited for divisions to be released though. Better be before 5:15pm if it's going to be tonight. I don't have internet access at work.

Straight from the creator of aredivisionsoutyet.com:
"It's from the FIRST website. Their website keeps crashing and I'm getting bad data when scraping"

I asked if this means divisions are out, but he didn't answer. My guess is conspiracy!!

Conspiracy is always the best way to go when it comes to waiting for divisions.

FIRST did take past year's data (including last year's division lists) down from the Championship page.

Again, besides for pre-scouting. Fantasy FIRST, yes, I love it, but not a need.

Trust me, for everyone in FF going to CMP, it's going to be a nightmare to generate lists when trying to pack the trailer if we can't get them soon.

Re: championship divisions?

The FIRST website has replaced the list of last years divisions with the list of 2013 divisions. However, the links are not yet clickable, and the team list doesn't seem to be loading either.

Me too! Dare we hope to be in the same division with 20? :)

What would be funny now is if someone took the current list of teams and randomized them, and posted it here. Extremely cruel, taking advantage of tons of people, but humorous.

I hope we're in the same division as 1114 and 2056. I can only hope.

Nobody wants to be in that division but 1114 and 2056.... and who their 3rd robot would be.

I'd love to see "The Eh Team" again. But then don't put us in that division.

Usually they are separated. I think last year was the only year they were in the same division.

Only if we're behind the same wall! Our robot would look hideous with a mass of pool noodles flopping around on top of it ;)

They've been in the same division I believe 2 other times, 2009 and I can't remember the other. In 2009 they teamed up together in the elims as well.

I'm pretty sure it'll be pseudorandom as it has been each year, and so about 1 in every 4 years that can happen. The Eh Team? 1 in about 16 years.

My team is very familiar with that year, having gone up against them in Archimedes QF 1 v 8.

Regardless of who else is in their division, together they are unstoppable.

Disagree I think there are many alliances that I could form with teams going to champs that could beat a 1114, 2056, XXXX alliance.

I don't think that's how probability works...
