Anyone coming just as spectators?
Hey everybody! Like most teams, we didn't qualify for the championship - but that doesn't mean some of us aren't coming :yikes: Is anyone else doing the something similar? Oh, and just putting it out there I'd love to help out any team that needs a random person (cheering, scouting, putting out fires...) :D Good luck everyone!

Re: Anyone coming just as spectators?
I plan on doing the same, and probably going to RoboProm! If anyone would like help I would be willing to assist :)

Re: Anyone coming just as spectators?
Me too - with wife and kids in tow. Friday-Saturday.
*me too meaning coming to competition. I doubt I'll be bringing my 4yo and 1yo boys to RoboProm. |
Re: Anyone coming just as spectators?
If anyone would like....I will always have an available job to be done.
You'd have to be willing to help a Canadian team, however. ;) Feel free to PM me! |
Re: Anyone coming just as spectators?
Justin, what is involved in getting into roboprom? I'd kinda like to attend, sounds awesome!
George, it looks like this lost puppy'll find a home :p |
Re: Anyone coming just as spectators?
I would strongly suggest volunteering. I don't think it's too late and its a great chance to see the other side of competitions.

Re: Anyone coming just as spectators?
Volunteer. Even if for one day (and one day volunteers need to be happy with whatever job they get assigned). You will get to meet other awesome volunteers. You will get a look at the event from a different side of the curtain. You will get to eat, at least for that day. Do the Volunteer Coordinators a favor and sign up in the VIMS.
Attend the conferences. They are free this year. First come, first serve. |

Re: Anyone coming just as spectators?
I'm volunteering to inspect again. Two days of poking your head in the coolest robots in the world, provided food, and a floor pass? Who would pass that opportunity up?

Re: Anyone coming just as spectators?
I will be there as a spectator. My team isn't competing, and I believe there's an age restriction for volunteering... correct me if I'm wrong though. (I do know I could volunteer for FLL.... but I do that at home anyway, and I want time to see FRC bots :p )

Re: Anyone coming just as spectators?
If interested in volunteering, do as Jenny suggested and register in VIMS. There will be very few walk-in volunteers accepted this year.

Re: Anyone coming just as spectators?
Living so close to the Dome, I will be attending all four days (Yes, I will be there Wednesday night) and might go to roboprom (Water-polo game pending...). I already have a list of robots that I want to see, and will have a list of questions prepared that will be asked.
If not for school, I would definitely be volunteering, but, unfortunately, I have a GPA that needs upholding. |
Re: Anyone coming just as spectators?
I'll be there as a volunteer, but you can bet I'll be watching everything I can!

Re: Anyone coming just as spectators?
Sadly not this year. I highly encourage teams not attending championships to do this though. Last year, the president, the head mentor, and my self spent Friday and Saturday at nationals. We spent most of our time in the pits talking to teams, with the focus on learning about how other teams worked. We implemented student commitment, improved preseason training, and a better design process as a direct result of our trip.
All of this enabled 449 to build one of our best and most reliable robots ever! |
