Are you sad to not be able to attend the FIRST Championships in St. Louis this weekend? Do you have friends who are there who may want to say hello to you? Do you want to see the pits, inspections, opening ceremonies, the VIP lunch area, and maybe some other cool places through the eyes of a telepresence robot?

Well, if you said "yes" to any of these wonderful things, let me introduce you to Mandy the Robot.

She is our telepresence robot, ready to hang out, well, Google Hangout, with you. Her ability to hang with you all depends on how much bandwith we will be using through a 4G phone hotspot. We plan to use her mostly during times when matches aren't taking place, to make sure that we don't cause grief with the fields. Check out the above web page link for more directions on how to hang with Mandy, and for the times we will be doing this at the Championships in St. Louis during this coming weekend.

I hope that I can bring her with me to some robot inspections and also the FRC opening ceremonies.

We will be updating our AndyMark facebook page, and Mandy's product page with instructions and operation statuses.

Post below in this thread if you wish to try hanging out. You will need to get a Google+ account in order to do this, and also download a Google app. We'll have more instructions on the Mandy page.

1. When I was young, my mother made me listed to way too much Barry Manilow.
2. We still feel sorry for Mandy Moore when all of the FIRSTers ran out on her during the 2002 FIRST Finale in Epcot.
3. Mashing up of the names "Mark" + "Andy" = Mandy

I would love to join but when i go to the hangout i get this "The server at plus.google can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed"

The URL on the Mandy page is missing a ".com" after the plus.google part.

All,

I am sad to announce that Mandy does not have the bandwidth to handle hanging out with you all. We tried various things on Wednesday night and yesterday, but we need a much better internet connection than what we can get through our phone in the convention center floor in order to do this.

Ah, well: Part of Engineering is finding the limits of the design. In this case, the limits of a 4G radio connection. If only Andy was a Ham Radio operator...:p
