Championships: Live Thoughts and Updates

Hey everyone,
Due to the large amount of mobile devices that can go online but not on to webcasts, I figured it would be a good idea to have a thread to discuss all the events of champs as they happen. I also figure that one thread is all we need for discussion about certain team's triumphs, disappointments, and other awesome moments.
Thanks and have fun!

Awesome idea, especially for all of us stuck at home, in school/work wanting to watch webcasts(but can't)

Anyone know whether the preliminary quals schedule is going to be changed? Doesn't look like the quals schedules have been uploaded to the division pages just yet, so I'm not sure what's going on there.

I wonder why FRC has not published the schedule on the main championship page.

http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprogr...p-event?id=432

The matches will be starting in less than 2 hours, but no online schedule yet.

Yeah, I was wondering if I needed to do a hard refresh on my browser to get the schedule to show up, but I guess it just isn't online at this point.

Is Spyder really updated with the match schedule for you? I've been refreshing event info from within the app, and the schedule remains blank (not to mention that I thought the app just pulls the schedule from the appropriate webpage).

118 just played, no 30 point to be seen. Over on Curie, 1717 redid their feeding mechanism and can now full court shoot.

1114 very narrowly missed a nasty fall. They fell from 30, but they managed to get wedged between the first and second rungs. If not for that, they would have landed on their shooter.

They got 2/3 up to 30 and started twisting. Climbed successfully in their first match.

Looks like they must have twisted off the corner since they are wedged on the side of the pyramid. They had a great showing in their first match on Galileo.

2415 put up a beautiful 7 disc auton in match 22 on Archi. Could've broken 200 points with 11 I think if their digital sidecar hadn't come unplugged in the last end of the match. Expect 2415 to be a major force on Archi!

We have an electronic scouting device, and those groups of kids programming the app got very upset because there is a 50 character limit to the team name length.

Well now time to shed the light. By the way, Tom Nadar did not say the team name of either match (as he was elsewhere), but I do write out the name broken up by words for every game announcer and walk them through how to say it correctly,

So prior to the 2011 season, the team had grown unhappy with the team name and felt a change was in order. The original plan was for some kind of acronym name like HoT or RUSH. So the process began with writing all kinds of words on the white board. When we couldn't decide where to go from there, we said, "let's just use them all and make one long name." I believe it's a total of 77 characters.

We did not think FIRST would allow such a long name when we submitted it, but they did and so we kept it. We actually really enjoy the name. We never shy away from the endless askings of how to say it. There have also been no regrets to the change.

We do though use the name "Extreme Eagles" when needed. It was actually used during the live MSC boardcast on DPTV.

Sometimes it's fun to be different. If there are any more questions about the name or robot, please feel free to PM me. I'll be happy to answer them.

If you scored every disk in the feeder station into the three point goal, you would score 153 points. Did you miss only a single disc?

I think they are counting autonomous points into their 150 and they also could have shot the colored discs which would give them 51 shots

150 - 18 (autonomous) - 10 (hang) - 20 (pyramid goal) = 102 points in the high goal during tele = 34 discs in the high goal during tele

Re: Championships: Live Thoughts and Updates

Here's my recap after two days of Canadian teams and their achievements.

On Curie, 4814 has gone 7-0 and sitting in third place, a mere 14 AP behind second. 2056 and 1310 are sitting in fourth and fifth, each going 6-1, separated by 4 AP. 3990's close behind going 5-2.

Galileo has 1114 seeded second and 610 in fifth, both also going 6-1, separated by 20 AP. 4334 is sitting in 8th, going 6-1 too. 1241 is nipping at their heels in 11th going 5-1-1.

Newton didn't see as much Canadian success on the field, with 4476 seeded the highest at 25th, but Kaley Bibic from the Waffles(4476) won Dean's List!

Archimedes hasn't been too kind to Canadian teams, with 1334 the highest ranked all the way down at 29th, but with impressive teleop scores who knows where they'll rank.

It's no mistake that of the 10 teams listed here, we have 7 regional winners, 2 finalists, and an RAS. This is the best of the best of Canada shining on the world stage.

Re: Championships: Live Thoughts and Updates

Here's a Canadian review going into the division eliminations.

Archimedes:

1334 was the only Canadian picked, sitting as the first pick from the 8th seed. They have to play the powerhouse alliance of 2415 and 987 first, and are looking to pull an upset.

Curie:

This division was totally scorched with 4 declines, leaving anyone with the chance at winning.

Watch out for 4814 captaining the number three alliance, alongside 3 time world champion full court shooter team 67, and team 1918 with a 5 disk auto and a 30 point climb. They also picked up the highest rookie seed award.

2056 is nipping at their heels, captaining alliance number 4. They picked up team 967 and on the way back up the draft grabbed Quebec team 3990, 2012 world RAS winners.

Yet another Canadian is an alliance captain in Curie, with 1310 captaining the number 5 alliance. They selected team 3824 and 1684.

Galileo:

The number one seed on Galileo is a massive powerhouse, with team 118 selecting teams 1114 and 4039, both Canadians who are good for 5 cycles, with 1114 having a climb on top. They are the heavy favourites for Galileo.

1241 is captaining the number 5 alliance, selecting teams 1477 and 610. 1477 and 610 are both regional winners from the number one captain position, and is probably the biggest threat to the number one alliance.

4334 is right below them on the 6th alliance, alongside their captain 3656 and fellow full court shooter 1806.

Newton:

This division was not very kind to Canadian teams, but team 4476 managed to pick up the highest rookie seed award.

In SF1-1, it looked like it was flexing like crazy and their hooks were unable to grab/latch onto the bars above the second level.

1114 has failed to get to the 3rd level two times in a row now. Looks like that fall actually did some damage

Abhishek R 27-04-2013 14:50

Re: Championships: Live Thoughts and Updates

It seemed like, either from prior problems or the defense in the match, 1114's arm did not extend enough to reach the 2nd level, so they were stuck at level 1. They were awarded a ton of foul points and a 30 point climb, enough to push them over for a win.

Newton F1-1

303-3476-1640 (Blue)

1114 has taken them out of the dumping club for sure with a VERY bad twist on their arm.

Seriously, with the arm already in that condition (they called a timeout for crying out loud), already climbing, only to twist it again. It's going to take one hell of a miracle.

Archimedes
Finals 1
469, 33, 1519
While 1519 shot full field ,and 469
occasionally did, 33 would wait under the
goal and pick up frisbees that their alliance
partners missed. From there they picked up from
the floor and shot straight up into the goal
giving them a victory and advantage for
the next match. Great finals strategy.

Such a horrible way for 1114 and 118 to get knocked out in the semi finals. Also dang at 1986 1538 and 217 being upset in the finals. No one expected that.

1114 and 118 have one more game, don't they? But I mean, it's not like 610, 1241, and 1477 is stacked or anything

the 3476-303-1640 alliance looks to be in the mood to topple giants, they certainly gave 1538-1986-217 a good run for their money. Can't wait to see who else ends up on Einstein

Robby Unruh 27-04-2013 15:15

1918 took a huge fall from the 3rd level on Curie! Fell on its side/shooter. Hope everything's ok.

And so the giants fall.

610-1477-1241 defeats 118-4039-1114 outright. Climbs did not make a difference, since all climbed for 10 and 1114 was not able to reach level 3, so much as to be even able to get off the ground.

Wow, 610 alliance and 1114 alliance were separated by 1 disc point and that match was won by foul points.

The match was decided by a technical foul with a final score of 219-235 in favor of the blue alliance.

Their first match was also decided by foul points (plus the 30 climb points awarded along with those fouls), but in the other alliance's favor. The 2nd match was pretty much clean, if I recall.

862 bumped the pyramid and 1918 fell off as a result. The red alliance got a red card for it.

Yeah, both sides had their share of foul points. It's happened a bit on the other fields as well. It's just horrible timing for 1114's climb to fail. Very unlucky, although the opposing alliance had a set of very brilliant cyclers. I guess the discs are turning out to be more reliable than climbs, as we saw 67 only reach the 2nd level once, 254 almost fall hanging by just one hook, 1114 fall a couple of times, 148 drop almost completely off the rung, to name a few.

Down goes 987's alliance as well, beat by cyclers and full court shooting.

To be fair 148 has the scariest 20pt climb I've seen even without falling.

1678-148-862 are your Curie champions. Wow. Congratulations.

1678 pulling out that win was totally unexpected. Congrats guys. Did anyone else notice the huge drop in max score in Curie once 2056 was eliminated?

610, 1241, and 1477 top 3284, 2169, and 2175. Now that's a great way to beat a full court shooter, just outscore them!

Story of Championships has to be 1477. Top tier robot all year, but kept getting eliminated just barely in each regional. After signing up on a Saturday night after their 3rd regional to attend their 4th they win that regional. They then make it to champs and win their division and make it to Einstein!

How in the world did 610's alliance win match 2? They were down about 30 on discs and the teams had similar climb points.

They probably weren't really down by about 30 on discs, live scoring was probably messed up.

74 points to 24 point auto score. Red had 91 teleop points while blue had 117.

Obvious answer, the load cells were off.
