Supporting Chief Delphi
I thought that I would bring this up now as the season has ended and we are preparing for vacations and summer jobs. Chief Delphi is supported by corporate sponsors AND individuals. I doesn't cost much but all contributions are welcome. As many will be getting summer jobs, think about how much CD has meant to you and your team. Save just a bit each pay day and you will find that it adds up quickly. I am encouraged by the number of individuals who do donate but compared to the number of users it is really low.
See what you can do, every little bit helps. :) |
Re: Supporting Chief Delphi
This site certainly has done a lot for me. $15 sent.
Perhaps the paid members should get a special designation next to their username, to help attract more paid members. They do this on other forums. |
Re: Supporting Chief Delphi
How do you donate?

FWIW, worth the small money to not have ads at the top of the page. |
Re: Supporting Chief Delphi
*Is a paid sponsor*
I'd also like to point out the $5 for six months option. Over the course of two years, CD gets an extra $5, which I'm sure helps. The amount of help I get from CD is totally worth the extra five bucks. |
Re: Supporting Chief Delphi
To whom at CD would I make a proposal about creating an incentive to donate?

Re: Supporting Chief Delphi
Put in for two years. Well worth it for a community like this.

Re: Supporting Chief Delphi
I'm glad these reminder threads come up every once in awhile. So glad I re-upped for two years.
Here is a quick link to help other potential supporters find the page to donate: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/payments.php |
Re: Supporting Chief Delphi
Numbers are climbing. Keep up the good work and tell others.

Re: Supporting Chief Delphi
Yeah, that was switched off in anticipation of a site upgrade. There's a thread somewhere on this (that it was switched off). Just waiting on Brandon.

Re: Supporting Chief Delphi
Something reminded me to check on my forum subscription, which lead me here.
When will the functionality be re-implemented so I can donate again? :D *takemymoney.png* |

I have a full time job now, since graduating. Willing to donate once it is available.

Re: Supporting Chief Delphi
And if you are using chrome like me remember to disable Adblock on this site, I can imagine some of the site's revenue comes from the first companies ads on the top of the main page and not blocking them probably helps.

Re: Supporting Chief Delphi
And for the record, I don't need the "perk" of removing ads. I'd be fine with just donating money.

Re: Supporting Chief Delphi
Thanks for all the great offers regarding support for the ChiefDelphi.com site.
Last year I phased out the support function for the site for several good reasons. The number 1 reason is that Innovation First is supporting the site 100%, and the second is that in the past students on team 47 and the now 51 used the advertisements as a fundraiser for their FRC team. Since I am no longer the Lead mentor for the team 51 this was phased out. There are no banner advertisements in mass and we no longer use donated funds to pay hosting fees and equipment. Thank You Bob and Tony from IFI. Here is an update of my Life: I retired form Education with Pontiac Schools after 37.5 years in 2010. I worked on a phase out plan with the team as I had to back away as a mentor. After the 3 year plan was complete I am proud to say that the team is strong and set for the future. Great Job Greg Spencer. I am a full time Support Manager for the REC Foundation and support VEX Teams in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky as well as VEX Leagues in the US. VEX is the fastest growing Educational Robotics competition in the High School and Middle School segment with 10,000+ teams and growing very fast. If you would like to know more contact me at mike_martus@roboticseducation.org I have Free Curriculum, info on a new Robotics Certification process and grants to start new programs in this affordable sustainable VEX Robotics program. |
Re: Supporting Chief Delphi
Thanks for the update, Mike.
I'm glad to hear that the site has found a more permanent source of funding, but I must admit, it'll take me a few days to get used to the space the banner ads take up now. =P Regardless, best of luck to you and your endeavors with VEX. |

Re: Supporting Chief Delphi
My CD subscription just expired. I was caught off-guard by the end of subscriber support. :(
It's not that I'm bothered by ads. I'm just totally OK with paying (or donating) for on-line information services. I donate annually to wikipedia and refdesk because I value what they provide. I feel the same about supporting ChiefDelphi. I'm willing to contribute to keep the voice of the FRC community loud and independent. |

I have always wanted to donate, but I don't do PayPal, and I get this when I try.
There must be some way for me to support the site with a credit card, like I can do with Wikipedia. |
