The BoB is now officially part of Baltimore Innovation Week 2013.
Visitors are welcome to register on the BIW website for a 30 minutes behind-the-scenes tour of the event. http://baltimoreinnovationweek.com/ I am recruiting student ambassadors. Interested? Send the names of students and email to: battleobaltimore (at) gmail.com This visitor program will be similar to the "FIRST Stop" and TEDxAdventure program held at the Chesapeake Regional. http://www.mdfirst.org/programs/firs...irst-stop.html Happy to answer any questions! |
Re: 2013 Battle O' Baltimore-Sept. 21
Payment is due on Aug. 15. At that time all unpaid teams will be moved to the waitlist.
We've already had one team added to the event off the waitlist. If your team is interested in participating, send in the registration form ASAP. You will be placed on the waitlist and Mark will let you know after Aug. 15 where you stand. http://www.battleobaltimore.com/ |
Re: 2013 Battle O' Baltimore-Sept. 21
There may be an opening for one more team at the BoB. If you know of a team interested - please have them complete the registration form asap to get on the wait list. Only teams who have submitted a registration form will be considered. http://www.battleobaltimore.com/
For those competing in the BoB: An email with all the details and reminders about scoring, food, judging changes, elimination rounds, load in, schedule, parking, and safety will be going out in the next couple of weeks. Most of the details are also posted on the website. http://www.battleobaltimore.com/ For everyone on the mailing list: An email will be going out with an invite for you to use to invite guests and sponsors to the event; a call for Student Ambassadors; and info about a rookie Q & A (for parents, mentors, students) and about a NEMO meeting (non-engineering mentor organization) that will be part of the day. You don't need to be competing to participate in these. |

Email sent to all the teams with more details.
Volunteers Needed. We are still recruiting for some volunteer positions, esp. Field Reset and a couple of Official Scorers. We will have quite a few veteran volunteers this year, but also will have many in training as we seek to grow the event volunteer base in Maryland. Team Envoys. We will be engaging Honors robotics students from UMBC under the direction of Dr. Susan Hoban from NASA/UMBC as Team Envoys. Most teams will have a Team Envoy assigned to spend the day with their team. The Team Envoys will be asking lots of questions and learning about FRC. Please welcome them to join your team for this day. Baltimore Innovation Week. We are excited to be a featured program for Baltimore Innovation Week. We are encouraging the general public to register. Student Ambassadors. We are recruiting students to be Ambassadors, giving tours to the public and talking about FIRST. Training will be provided. NEMO- the Non-Engineering Mentor Organization will be meeting from 10-11 am in the Get Involved! room. All adults (mentors/parents/sponsors) are welcome to attend. Rookie Q & A will be held from 1-2 in the Get Involved! room. This is open to rookie students, mentors, sponsors, and parents to address your questions. Veterans are welcome to attend. |

Re: 2013 Battle O' Baltimore-Sept. 21
I'm looking forward to the event tomorrow. Team 316 went for the first time last year and had a great time.
Just wondering, are there currently any plans to webcast the competition? |
Re: 2013 Battle O' Baltimore-Sept. 21
We are looking forward to 316 returning this year!
At this time there are no plans to webcast, but we will send out a blast if that changes. The NASA Robotics Alliance truck has arrived and set up has started. We will be having lots of visitors at the event tomorrow as well as the 30 teams as well as many sponsors and more than 70 volunteers. One of the sponsors has a company started by former FIRSTers. We are training lots of new event volunteers for the area. It's going to be a fun day. |

Re: 2013 Battle O' Baltimore-Sept. 21
Team 225 had a great time at the Battle O' Baltimore. This is the closest event to our team that we can attend, and we use that opportunity to bring sponsors and other local interested parties. It was great competing with all the Maryland teams that we don't get to see during the normal FIRST competition season.
Thanks to 1640, 2914, and 339 for all of your efforts with us. |
Re: 2013 Battle O' Baltimore-Sept. 21
Champions - 1st Alliance (draft order): 225, 1640, 2914, and 339
Finalists - 3rd Alliance (draft order): 316, 4575, 9999, 4464 4th bots were randomly placed (but played, and quite well!) Congrats to the finalists. Heat job guys, it was a fun run! And many thanks to 225 and our alliance; that was some great synergy. EDIT: Full Bracket (sort of extrapolating on the finishes though) 1: above - W 2: 2534, 4505, 356, 2546 - QF? 3: above - F 4: 3941, 2199, 686 -SF 5: 4067, 2377, 4288, 4099 -QF 6: 836, 53, 1719 - QF 7: 2537, 888, 2528, 1915 - SF? 8: 3389, 612, 2849 - QF ...err, except I'm short 1 :( Sorry, whoever you are! I think they were the random for 6. Awesome event--as we've come to expect from BAA! Thanks to all the volunteers and Boys' Latin. 1640 misses not volunteering as a team this year, but needless to say we had a blast! Great experience by all teams. Also my personal congrats to all the MAR teams: 5 teams, 4 trophies. (And the 2nd alliance took 357.) Shoutout to the grill master. Good eats. Very well run concessions. |
Re: 2013 Battle O' Baltimore-Sept. 21
The alliances were as follows:
1. 225 1640 2914 [339] 2. 2534 4505 357 3. 316 4575 9999/20140016 (pre-rookie) [4464] 4. 3941 2199 686 5. 4067 2377 4288 6. 836 53 1719 7. 2537 888 2528 8. 3389 612 2849 Six of the alliances had a fourth team assigned to them after alliance selection. I did not catch all of them, but the ones I did I noted above. 1 beat 8 in 2 matches 7 beat 2 in 3(?) matches 3 beat 6 in 2 matches 4 beat 5 in ? matches 1 beat 4 in 2 matches 3 beat 7 in 2 matches 1 beat 3 in 2 matches Congratulations to the winning alliance of 225, 1640, 2914, and 339. Always great playing with you guys. I also want to thank our alliance partners 4575, 4464, and pre-rookie 20140016 Titanium Wrecks. We had a great run to the finals, and we put up a good fight in the end. Kudos to the BAA and all the volunteers running the event. It was a lot of fun to play with teams we don't get to see as often anymore with MAR. |

Re: 2013 Battle O' Baltimore-Sept. 21
Heard on the mike about 5 pm last night. "Jenny has asked that all volunteers report to the field after the awards ceremony for the volunteer group photo. She will be handing out your paycheck at that time."
Between the set up, tear down, running the event, student ambassadors, team envoys, VISTA's, Senior Mentors, and FTC & FLL reps - we had over 100 volunteers. Every single one of them contributed to making this a great day for the 30 teams. Thanks to the NASA Robotics Alliance and Boys' Latin School for helping make sure this year happened. The mission of the 2013 BoB was to offer a fun competition experience to teams, especially new teams, new team members, new volunteers, new mentors and parents, and to introduce FIRST programs to the public. There were teams at the event who chose to have their rookies play key roles like driving. We start planning the 2014 8th Battle O' Baltimore next week... |
Re: 2013 Battle O' Baltimore-Sept. 21
I'd like to thank our alliance partners 1640, 2914, and 339. It was a pleasure working with all of you. Also a huge thanks to everyone running the event who helped make everything run so smoothly.
I really enjoyed my 3rd Battle o' Baltimore, and I wouldn't have wanted to spend my 18th birthday any other way. |
