2013 Indiana Robotics Invitational-Holy Cow

Disclaimer: I am just a FRC fan and this thread is not meant to "leave out" any team at IRI, but to provide an entertaining view point of pre-IRI.

What a year it has been in 2013. Ultimate Ascent has provided a game in which teams have played through blizzards, ascended pyramids, and hurled frisbees across the court. Now we have finally made it to the "all-star" event for FIRST Robotics, the Indiana Robotics Invitational. At this event, the FIRST World will be given the opportunity to see some of the greatest teams that played Ultimate Ascent. Here are a few predictions of mine as I looked into the field for IRI.

(On a side note it is a shame that both 254, 610, and 1986 were not able to attend IRI. These teams had fantastic machines that could put up some big points.)
  • The number of backpacks has increased by ten each year according to the IRI webpage. I predict that FRC teams will provide over 115 backpacks for the community. :D
  • There will be no undefeated team this year at IRI.
  • There will not be a match in which an alliance will have over 50 climb points.
  • Each elimination alliance will have a FCM and a 7 disk auton.(Full Court Maker)
  • There will be more Canadian teams in the eliminations semifinals than Michigan teams.
  • Finally, if the trend holds true, FRC Team 1538 will win IRI since they won the Chairman's Award at Championships this year.

Elimination Bracket:
1. 2056-1114-1310
2. 33-469-3467
3. 987-118- 862
4. 1538-67-1241
5. 3928-148- 234
6. 111-1477-2590
7. 2054-303-11
8. 359-2468-71

1 beats 8 in 3 games
2 beats 7 in 3 games
3 beats 6 in 2 games
4 beats 5 in 2 games

4 beats 1 in 3 games
3 beats 2 in 3 games

4 beats 3 in 3 games

Good Luck to every team that is competing.

That's 2 more Indiana teams than last year I think.

I'm not so sure that I agree with this one. I get that there aren't many 30 and 20 point climbers. Still, there are enough (I know of at least 1114, 67, 1806, and 3467, but I'm probably forgetting a couple obvious ones) that 2 should be paired at least once.

Then again, part of my disagreement might be because I just really want to see a 90 point climb alliance.

If not in a quals match maybe we should stack a practice match just so it can be done!

The most we have ever done was a double thirty in a practice match with 236 and I think 910 squeezed in for 10.

71 is also a 30 point climber (inside corner), 1334 (outside corner), and 148 is a good 20 point hang up the middle.

1806 isn't attending. :(

I can't see the #1 alliance ever losing. 1310 is WAYYYYYY too good to be a second pick, even at IRI.

Here's my list:
1. 469-1114-2054-2474
2. 2056-987-3467-3928
3. 33-67-2337-125
4. 118-1310-1640-245
5. 148-1538-2826-862
6. 868-3476-4334-195
7. 68-624-111-1334
8. 2468-2590-359-1477

(I purposely excluded 20 to keep my dreams from interfering with my list! :D)

1 beats 8
2 beats 7
3 beats 6
4 beats 5

4 beats 1
2 beats 3

4 beats 2

Oops, sorry about that. I had the IRI prescouting spreadsheet open to fill in my team's information and used it quickly as a team roster. It still lists 1806 as attending.

(To OP)

Sorry 1538 can't win in the bracket you put up. They're with 1241, who won champs. The track record of championship winners at IRI isn't great.

Second picks at IRI are very surprising! In 2010, 1086 picked 1114 as the second seed and picked 2056 for their third. During 2011, 67 was the second pick by the first seeded alliance. And with how IRI does alliance selections, being pick number 9 isn't a bad place to be!

When you have such a high caliber event like IRI your second picks (and sometimes third picks) are stacked!

I suppose. You never know at IRI. But in my opinion, 1310 is one of the top 5 teams in the world, so we'll see.
I think the OP just wanted at make an all-Canadian alliance!
And my bracket isn't exactly perfect either (111 as a second pick by a low seeded alliance? RIDICULOUS! 4265 not getting picked at all?!?! RIDICULOUS! Although it happened in Archimedes, soooooooo... :D)

Don't forget about the 4th bot for each alliance.

It would be good to see an almost all michigan alliance like in 2012 alliance 6
33,1023,51,330 add the numbers together 3+3=6, 1+0+2+3=6,5+1=6,3+3+0=6
