There's actually surprising little team cross over from these two events. Very few LA or MS teams play at Lone Star anymore (none last year) and only a handful Texas teams (4 last season) traditionally cross the border to play at Bayou each year. It'll be very sad if we can't go to Bayou next year but overall not too many teams will be affected.

Well, we are interested in crossing the border and going to Lone Star or Dallas mainly because we really want to see some different competition, and because it would be a huge learning expirience for us being around some of the successful Texas teams. And its a LOT shorter than going to Arkansas or Orlando.

I completely agree, I'm just saying both events will fill up even if they share the same week, so it's not necessary for the directors to coordinate their schedules. I wish they were on different weeks too.

I've heard pretty good evidence that this is true.

As a member of the Georgia FIRST planning committee, I have been duly authorized to confirm that yes indeed, we are planning on having the event during week 5 in exhibit hall 'B' at the Georgia World Congress Center.

On the other hand, it's great that the venue is within walking/biking distance from my apartment.

No way would they put Sacramento and Silicon Valley the same week, they're way too close and a lot of teams go to both of those. I know Silicon Valley traditionally is on the week of SJSU's spring break but Sacramento isn't always that week, it's been during a school week before.

I heard Sacramento Regional is in the works for Week 3. Of course as with all of this, not official yet.

Rumor around TRR this weekend was that Lone Star is moving back to Week 6. I have not confirmed this with any official source. Also it might be a Fri-Sun event. Again this is all just hearsay until the planning committee releases more information.

The rumor is now confirmed. Lone Star is scheduled for Apr 4th - 6th at George R. Brown Convention Center.

According to the calendar on the Friends of Hawaii Web Page, the Hawaii Regional is actually going to be held on March 27-29.

FIRST is working on an event schedule, too.

There's really no need for this thread anymore since FIRST has now taken up the slack.

It is a shame the Lone Star Regional and Silicon Valley Regional have the same dates. Lone Star was a great regional and the people that we met there made a good event even better. It was well worth the travel.

I guess Frank's blog post kinda makes this thread moot, eh?

I'm more than excited about this. And chalk up another thousand points for Frank Merrick and his wonderful staff at FIRST. They're awesome!

Yeah, if a mod could close this thread, it's no longer needed. :D

Don't close the thread yet-- it's time for post-game analysis :)

Now that the schedule-in-progress has been released, we've been given a great opportunity to compare our best predictive effort with the actual data at one particular moment in time. With this data we might be able to inform or improve future prediction efforts.

How well did we do? (or, Are we as smart as we think we are?)
Out of our 36 predictions,
  • 25 (69.5%) were correct
  • 2 (5.5%) were incorrect
  • 9 (25%) are unknown at the time of this post

The two incorrect predictions are:
  • Orlando Regional, predicted week 2, actual week 3
  • Silicon Valley Regional, predicted week 5, actual week 6

The nine (at this time) unknown predictions are:
  • Pittsburgh Regional, predicted week 3
  • FIRST Tech Valley Regional, predicted week 3
  • Greater Kansas City Regional, predicted week 4
  • SBPLI Regional, predicted week 5
  • Sacramento Regional, predicted week 5
  • Peachtree Regional, predicted week 5
  • Hawaii Regional, predicted week 5
  • Las Vagas Regional, predicted week 6
  • New York City Regional, predicted week 6

Where did we go wrong?
Both of these incorrect predictions stemmed from the assumption that the regional dates would need to align with the spring break of the host university. That's University of Central Florida for the Orlando Regional, and San Jose State University for the Silicon Valley Regional. Further work is needed to determine exactly why this assumption was incorrect (e.g. did the universities change their policy in regards to hosting public events while school is in session?).

What is still left to predict?
Still on the table are the nine events listed above, plus all the events listed as 31-Dec-2014 on the official FRC event calendar.
