Re: 2014 Predicted Event Calendar
According to the calendar on the Friends of Hawaii Web Page, the Hawaii Regional is actually going to be held on March 27-29.

Re: 2014 Predicted Event Calendar
There's really no need for this thread anymore since FIRST has now taken up the slack.

Re: 2014 Predicted Event Calendar
It is a shame the Lone Star Regional and Silicon Valley Regional have the same dates. Lone Star was a great regional and the people that we met there made a good event even better. It was well worth the travel.

Re: 2014 Predicted Event Calendar
I guess Frank's blog post kinda makes this thread moot, eh?

Re: 2014 Predicted Event Calendar
I'm more than excited about this. And chalk up another thousand points for Frank Merrick and his wonderful staff at FIRST. They're awesome!
Yeah, if a mod could close this thread, it's no longer needed. :D |

Don't close the thread yet-- it's time for post-game analysis :)
Now that the schedule-in-progress has been released, we've been given a great opportunity to compare our best predictive effort with the actual data at one particular moment in time. With this data we might be able to inform or improve future prediction efforts. How well did we do? (or, Are we as smart as we think we are?) Out of our 36 predictions,
The two incorrect predictions are:
The nine (at this time) unknown predictions are:
Where did we go wrong? Both of these incorrect predictions stemmed from the assumption that the regional dates would need to align with the spring break of the host university. That's University of Central Florida for the Orlando Regional, and San Jose State University for the Silicon Valley Regional. Further work is needed to determine exactly why this assumption was incorrect (e.g. did the universities change their policy in regards to hosting public events while school is in session?). What is still left to predict? Still on the table are the nine events listed above, plus all the events listed as 31-Dec-2014 on the official FRC event calendar. |
