I see on the FIRST site that Peachtree is still showing as "preliminary", but now has published dates of 3/12 - 3/15 (Week 3). Can anyone shed any light on this?

That is interesting.

Last I heard (two weeks ago), the plan was still for week 5. We were actually going to be a part of a sports event, so it meant a decent amount of publicity.

Although, that was two weeks ago. There's a number of things that could've changed since then (including the locking down of Palmetto and DC for week 5).

Actually, Palmetto is confirmed for week 1 :yikes:. DC and Smoky Mountain are in Week 5 per the FIRST site. Week 3 coincides with a scheduled day off for our students, so the chances for a return to Peachtree to defend our first (and only) title may have improved.

I don't know if this qualifies as a sports event (you might be thinking about GRITS?). The plan is to have the regional run the last few days of the Atlanta Science Festival.

http://atlantasciencefestival.org/

From everything I have heard, the plan is for week 5 for Peachtree, but I guess that's up in the air until the 'preliminary' is removed from the official schedule.

Just checked the official schedule, looks like it's officially week 5 from March 27-29.

Sorry, I meant SMR (Smokey Mountain Regional).

At the same weekend as Peacthree, apparently there's some sort of basketball tournament going on. It means hell for parking, but apparently the regional is getting some kickback with respects to publicity. Obviously, there'll be more people at the venue, but if I remember correctly, ESPN has agreed to do some coverage of the event.

Some insider information in North Bay, Ontario is saying that our new North Bay Regional will be held Week 5.

No word on the new Great Lakes Regional in Windsor or the even existence of the GTR-West Regional. The Greats Lakes Regional is looking to be either Week 1 or 7, unless they hold two regionals at the same time. But, that hasn't happened in a while in Canada.

The preliminary events calendar has this to say:

GTR East week 2

Waterloo Week 4
Montreal Week 4

North Bay week 5

Windsor week 6
Calgary week 6

GTRW TBD

Not sure if anyone is monitoring this thread that plan to attend Greater Kansas City, but they sent an email and published new info on the KC FIRST website.

GKC will be week 3, March 13th-15th. However, for 2014, there has been a change of venue. The 2014 GKC Regional will be held at Metropolitan Community College - Business & Technology Campus (MCC-BTC).

Personally, I absolutely love Hale Arena and will miss it. But we'll wait and see how 2014 goes before I say MCC-BTC isn't as good.

The Great Lakes regional (now listed as the Windsor-Essex Regional) is being held April 3-5. That's the same week as the Western Canada Regional, so for the first time there are 2 Canada events the same week. :D

Nope. The first time will be 2 weeks earlier, with Waterloo and Montreal being at the same time*:D.

*excluding GTR East/West 2011 double regional.

Re: 2014 Predicted Event Calendar

I'm a little surprised by FIRST doubling up on QCMO/ONWA.

We all knew that with 7 Canadian regionals this year, one was likely to be doubled up, and the natural choice (due to geography) is Calgary with any one of the Ontario/Quebec regionals.

The 6 Ontario/Quebec regionals though, are all within a not completely ridiculous driving distance of one another. Seems to me the ideal distribution (both for maximizing choice for teams, maximizing utilization of field equipment, and minimizing border crossings for the field) would be for the 6 Ontario/Quebec regionals to be on different weeks, using the same field at all 6.

If I had to guess, I'd say they're having venue-schedule issues, which have lead to this less-than-ideal distribution.
