Robot Revival

So we just got our 1998 National Champion robot revived this week. It was the last single bot to win the championships. 2 drills power the drive and like 5 window/van door motors power the rest of the machine. It reaches high enough to dunk in the 2 point goal from this year and can store 2 20 inch balls.

1998

So what great robots would you guys like to see reborn?

That's really cool. Is that the original control system from 98?

No unfortunately in 1998 you had to return the control system after the competition. This is a 2007 IFI controller programmed in C with MatLab I believe.

Just get some Parallax BASICStamp IIs.
You need one for the radio portion and one for the user code on the robot side.
On the 'field' side just use another BASICStamp II.
A couple of cheap 900MHz radios and you are on your way retro.
There's plenty of information out there to replicate the field/robot transactions.

:yikes:

BTW if you don't want to deal with the BASICStamp IIs just use Parallax Propellers.
You can get 'pBASIC' for them and they are *vastly* more powerful.
You can essentially make the same design concept but with the Propellers you only need one on the robot.
Each Parallax Propeller can do 8 things essentially at the same time.
So you don't need another Propeller because just of 2 of the 8 'cogs' would exceed the power of the 2 BASIC Stamp IIs.
Heck you would have 6 'cogs' (like CPU cores) left over!
Hook'em up to play PacMan or spin your disco ball with a window motor :D

(I am not kidding you can output TV video from a Parallax Propeller and play PacMan on it with the left over 'cogs'.)

I would want to see Team Hammond's "The Beast" from zone zeal revived. It could be one of the best robots ever easily winning any match it was in.
It would be cool to see a new video of how it works or even a "reveal" video.
