Controller Release at NI Week: ‘Athena’ Showcase

Back in June, I posted about the new FRC 2015 controller that National Instruments is developing for FIRST. Good news! NI is announcing the specs and details of the “Athena” controller at their annual NIWeek conference this week!

They are hosting a live stream & panel for an event called the “Athena” showcase for students who can’t attend NIWeek to watch live. Be sure to watch the Athena Showcase live at http://bit.ly/13DU4Lw. Visit the live stream website for further information on timing.
Date: Thursday, August 8
Time: 11:00 – 12:00 CST
Location: Online -- http://bit.ly/13DU4Lw
Tweet your questions about #Athena to @niFIRSTrobotics and see if it gets answered by the live panel discussion participants.

Leading the panel is Kit of Parts Manager, Kate Pilotte. From FIRST, you’ll see appearances from Don Bossi, president of FIRST and me. From NI, Greg McKaskle, Chris Rake, and Joe Hershberger will all be on the panel.

See you at NIWeek,

Frank

Wooooo! Can't wait. I've been thinking about it and speculating for two weeks.

Is that how normal people feel before an Apple presentation?

I don't think "most" people anticipate Apple presentations. Anticipating NI controller releases is just a whole new level of nerdiness.

I don't know how true this is, but I've heard from somebody at CMP that the controller will have an ARM9 based SoC with similar amounts of RAM as the cRIO-II, and that there will be more I/O than the 3 pin connectors on the pcb they showed us, either on another part of the main controller, or on a separate breakout board, and that it will probably work with a modified version of WPILib.

I was told what the person thought would be the CPU's part number, but I'm not sure if I remember it properly. I think that it's mcimx25?

Does anyone know if a recording of this will be posted somewhere? I'm going to be at demo for one of our sponsors and can't watch it.

Lets see who was paying attention during day 1 keynote this morning at NIWeek!

Yes. We plan to have streams for both the keynote and the q&a session posted to NI.com/first - and if that link doesn't work, ni.com/frc should do the trick.

Muchas muchas gracias. Am I correct in assuming that other keynotes will be posted on ni.com? There are a few non-FIRST ones (Truchard's, Red's) that I'll miss due to work but would like to check out later.

Usually they are posted about a day after.

Chris - for those of us that are "here", is the Athena panel discussion going to be located at the same hall as the keynote?

So, for those attending NI Week the Q&A session will be in room 3 at 11:00 CST?

If you show up at 11 CST you'll miss it. I recommend 11 CDT instead :)

Both links currently do an infinite redirect.

I had the same problem yesterday and it was due to a bad cache state in Firefox. Clearing the cache did the trick.
