TACOS

Yes, you heard it here first. For the 2002 FIRST Competition, we will have to make tacos with robots. A tasty Mexican treat for the judges. :)

Clark Gilbert 27-11-2001 18:42

LoL!!!

THAT WOULD BE HILARIOUS........

Imagine if we could give them speakers so they could save spanish phrases.....or if they had sombraros (sp?) and other mexican cloths.....

I also should start paying attention more in Spanish...j/k

ME GUSTA TACOS!!!!!

:D :D

gniticxe 27-11-2001 18:50

hmmm...

I'm curious; would the scoring be done objectively or subjectively? ;)

Dan 550 27-11-2001 18:57

Tacos are the future of robotic sports.

David Kelly 27-11-2001 19:01

aaaahhhhh, finally. thats all i need is a Pecos Bill Chille Burrito from Roscoe's Taco's. They are the BEST!!!!!! all of you people from Indy's southside know what i am talking about:D, not like there are a lot of you who post on here.

don't even remind me of spanish class clark, this is comming from someone who barely passed with a D- last year.

D.J. Fluck 27-11-2001 19:06

me no likeo espanolo....lol...I like Tacos...but i hate spanish...my worst class i have ever taken...

Carolyn Duncan 27-11-2001 20:58

Me likes tacos. Mmmmmmmmm... Yummy... I never took spanish though so I can't say anything about it, but I can make really good tacos. Has anyone ever heard of Speedy Gonzales Tacos? They have taco burgers :D. That's some good stuff.

my question is how did you get this infomation ahead of everyone else? Who did you hear it from? and do you even know if this is a reliable source?

I'm Guessing..............

That Team 713 is a rookie team. Well let me be the first one to let Team 713 know not to believe every word you read on Chief Delphi.com We CD posters have a wierd sense of humor!

Good luck rookies!

Just a comment about that... not ALL CD posters have that weird sense of humor... And, by the way... Rumor mill is a place for... well... "rumors".... Let's just keep any kind of "rumors" in this place...

I know that this is a place where rumors go. However, some rumors are true. This is why I wanted to know where his sources are from. By the way this name is used by about 4 people and not all of us are rookies to this site (just rookie posters)

Nacho Cheese & Mountain Dew

My sources tell me that the 2002 competition will officially be called 'PartyBots.' The robots will have to assemble & serve foods & drinks, specifically Tacos & Mountain Dew. The Pepsi corperation has invested great sums of money this year, and has formed a partnership between its Taco Bell and Mountain Dew brands to sponsor the 2002 FIRST Competition. Microsoft has invested as well, and all members of winning teams get an X-Box.

Microsoft already loses a whole bunch of money on the x-box, why not give 'em away? :)

Hmm...sounds like everyone's sources were quite hungry. :) I think the judges just wanted a free lunch and dinner. :p

The taco idea is funny. I took some Spanish..but that was in 8th grade and freshie year..though my mom sometimes forces me to speak it b/c she needs "practice." Riight. She's fluent and teaches it all day long..oh well. And I vote for tacos from Casa de Tacos in St. Augustine in N. Florida..they are the best (real stake in tacos..yummy!).

~Angela who is getting hungry about now, even though it's only a bit after nine in the morning

Dave_222 29-11-2001 14:35

mmmmm taaaaaaccccccooooooosssss

Heak with making tacos for the judges our robout only makes tacos for me MMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!! :p :p :p :p

Wayne C. 29-11-2001 20:21

Tacos... someone say tacos!!!!

I guess if the robot is supposed to make tacos then the mascot has to be a Chihuahua. Does that mean no more hamsters......

OtakuRob 03-12-2001 11:56

Mmmm... Tacos.. what if we could make a robot to not only serve tacos and drinks, but keep a salsa shark running.. That would be funny..

"Salsa shark. We're gonna need a bigger boat. Heh."

mehtank 04-12-2001 19:52

tacos.... mmmm, indeed

such a dearth of good americanized mexican food here... (esp. with it not being america and all). you know you have it bad when you're looking forward to coming home to the quality food of taco bell.

hey wait, that's it... use FIRST as a way to bring culture to the brits... in the form of fake mexican food! (don't forget the sour cream)

-ANkuR

if i were cleverer, you'd be reading a .sig now

Madison 04-12-2001 22:57

Wait?! There's a team from the United Kingdom now?

Wow, when did that happen?

...I'm glad we stopped whining about travel expenses. Those folks from Brazil and the UK can have the floor.

Anyway, welcome to FIRST :)

Christina 04-12-2001 23:10

Okay, the whole UK team threw me off a bit...but, you also have a team number between 716-800. That's the first time I've seen that. What I want to know...is how you guys found out about FIRST and what made you decide that you're flying all the way out here to compete. How many competitions are you going to?

Anyway, to stay with relevance to the tread...just out of curiousity, does that mean your robot has to be food/sauce resistant? I could imagine that it would be pretty bad if your robot accidentally spilled fire sauce on all the wires and such. And what happens if they spill everything on the judge? Is that a deduction (as well as having that judge hate you for the rest of the competition :))? I hope the judges brings a whole lot of spare clothing. :)

is there some significance to being between 716-800?

i'm actually an exchange student from MIT, and i've done FIRST there (team 97) the past two years. coming here i thought it would be cool to bring FIRST overseas, and so i went around and found students who were keen to start a team. now we're working on raising enough money for it all. its my hope that soon there will be enough teams from around here to have a UK regional. =] and then our plans for world domination through the proliferation of taco wielding robots will reach fruition! FEAR THE HOT SAUCE!!! MUA HA HA!!!

err...

as of now we're only signed up to go to the NYC regional... we weren't sure about funding and whether or not it could all work out, so when we registered all the comps were waitlisted...

shaping the future through liberal doses of salsa

Lora Knepper 05-12-2001 18:44

*did a double take on the UK as well* Nice to see a FIRSTer spreading it around :)

And as for Tacos...

Love the food, but since some really disgruntled engineer at a large plane manufactuer sent taco chips in with her 401k paperwork last month to scare us with "anthrax", I think I'll have to pass on the Taco 'Bot ;)

volleygrrl234 05-12-2001 19:50

Me gusta tacos mucho. Me gusta hablar espanol, pero es muy dificil porque nadie habla espanol bien. Ok. enough spanish. I just like to speak it. I think i wanna minor in it in universidad. AAAHHHH!!! i can't stop!!! Plus, who would want to end the glorious soap opera of destinos????

Jeff Waegelin 05-12-2001 20:47

Nosotros vemos Destinos? Esta es la programa mejor de todo el mundo! Mi clase ve destinos, tambien. Just thought I could impress someone with my Spanish knowledge. Los tacos son muy buenos!

gniticxe 05-12-2001 20:59

Qu'est-ce que c'est tout ceci espagnol? Je ne comprends rien! Moi, I think we should have the robots make French Toast, even though it isn't french...the level of difficulty is much higher. I mean really, tacos is just assembling things. French toast is cracking eggs, adding milk, gently flipping the bread in it, and then grilling it for just the right time. I think we're up to it ;)

Dan 550 05-12-2001 21:40

Flubber

Hey, in Flubber, the automated house bots made eggs, toast, and some other stuff. What's to stop us from doing it? Sure, pBasic can't do everything by itself, but actuation is why we, the drivers, are there.

OtakuRob 06-12-2001 01:04

Head spinning from all these languages.. Makes me forget why I'm trying to learn japanese.. Oh well.. As for most stuff, Tacos good, UK good, bacon and egg house good.. And everything is great.. Though this is now rambling..

Tom Fairchild 06-12-2001 07:48

Two words: Pizza anyone?

~Tom Fairchild~, who could also go for some tacos 'bout now.

Dan 550 06-12-2001 22:02

Pizza...

Pizza is wet.

so is taco sauce and Mountain Dew but people said that our robots would have to serve them up; once again were back to the idea of water (or anything else that doesn't belong with electronics)

Dan 550 06-12-2001 23:47

Dew

The only way to Do the Dew is in the can.

ACK! Not the accursed water debate! Could you people please stop mentioning robots and water?

D.J. Fluck 08-12-2001 12:44

This has been an interesting thread, First Tacos are mentioned, then dew, then robots with water and i think i saw soemthing about a team from the UK...
