The Peachtree Regional. March 27th - 29th. Georgia World Congress Center.

A new (and at the same time, old) competition venue, a new competition week, & some new faces; 2014 is going to be an interesting competition year. Who's ready to turn up & win a blue banner in the great city of Atlanta?

1311 will not be going to the Peachtree for the 1st time in history. We will be volunteering but not competing.

Heading to the Palmetto and then to the Bayou.

pretty simple actually. we want to do two regionals, travel around, go to the beach. Palmetto is well 'Myrtle Beach'.... still a little cool temperature wise at that date but neat to go to. Bayou is during the school districts spring break week and that will be a little bit of a vacation going there.

On a separate note, I love the venue change. This will probably solve the seating issue, but I love that the P'tree regional is back within five minutes of my residence.

Parking shouldn't be too bad but I did notice that they are having two other events that weekend and one of them is the International Auto Show. That might make parking a bit more difficult especially for large trucks and trailers. I hope the regional planners are working to block some areas off just for the FRC folks and their trailers. Does anybody have any insight into that? It's also interesting that the GWCC website doesn't list the Peachtree Regional yet?? See the link below...

For all those teams that asked me where 1102 has been the past few years, looks like they've finally made their way back.

If my rookie team's regional doesn't conflict, I might make a visit back to Peachtree to volunteer again.

It'll definitely be worth it, we used the new venue for the GRITS offseason event. If they have the audio engineers place the speakers in better spots, it looks like the venue will be amazing!

Yeah, the placement wasn't ideal of the speakers. I had to move strategically when MCing to avoid feedback.

If the committee needs help setting up the audio, I can help with that. I have some experience (you remember) in setting up audio in somewhat large venues. The new space has plenty of potential, but bad speaker placement can kill the excitement a lot. ::ouch::

Is anybody else planning to be at the Johnson Destination Einstein field this Saturday? 1746 will be showing up for a bit of practice.

We're going to be at the field at Walton's space. I have heard of a few teams who will be at destination einstein though.

We'll be there for pretty much all of Saturday. We have two robots (one for defense and one practice bot), so you'll have a few robots to play with.

Additionally, I think there are 2-3 teams that work at the LJ facility. I'm sure we could coax them into joining us.

Technically, the Walton facility is also a DE facility, but it sounds like the party is going to be at the LJ facility.

Team 108 is extremely excited to make the trip out to the Peachtree regional. It would be nice to see some pictures and videos of robots competing at the regional.

1102 has gotten tons, and I mean that. TONS of driver practice for once this year. I expect them to be a lot better than people have seen from them in quite a while. They're trying a lot of new things this year, but so far it seems they've mastered them quite well. They'll be one of the fastest/agile teams at Peachtree I suspect.

Can't wait to come up to ATL for finals day.

For some teams it only feels like yesterday was stop build. For others, week 5 couldn't have come sooner. Regardless of that, week 5 is upon us, and Peachtree is right around the corner. To get hyped for Peachtree, Team 1648 put together a hype video to highlight our robot and the changes we made between Palmetto and Peachtree. Check it out here.

Week 5 brings warm weather and the Peacthree Regional to the real Atlanta. For the first time since 2010, the Georgia World Congress Center will play host to 65 teams for a good game of Aerial Assault Assist.

1261 is not-so-fresh off their win in Palmetto. Week 1 treated them well, and their occasional two-ball autonomous, followed by a consistent high-goal shot, caught a lot of their opponents off guard. If they can stay frosty in week 5, they may walk into St. Louis with two blue banners.

Speaking of Palmetto, 2974 almost took home the gold in Myrtle Beach with their excellent scouting and killer defense. They had to settle for the Engineering Inspiration Award, but maybe this time, they can break out of their offensive shell and take home the gold.

2415 joined the party in week 3 at Dallas, and maybe one of these years, they’ll actually get going in their first event. This year, their robot may have exited early in the Quarterfinals at Dallas, but they were able to work out a lot of issues and will come into Peachtree looking to show that they are the number one team in the southeast.

If there’s a party, we can’t forget our friends from the south. we’re not just talking about 79, who, with a reliable intake and a decent shooter, went home a win shy of a blue banner in Orlando, but also 2283, who took the gold in the first ever Mexico City Regional.

In 2008, 1771 sucked so much they won the National Creativity Award. This year, 1771-incarnate (read: 4509), is going back to its roots and is a real blast from the past. If they manage to avoid the first-regional wrinkles, 4509 could be going to the finals for the second year in a row at Peachtree.

It’ll be hard to count how many teams Team JVN has inspired, but if we had to start at the Peachtree Regional, teams 108 and 1746 would be close to the top of that list. Both teams sport robots that perfectly implement the concepts behind the three day build, and if they can replicate their practice-field successes, both of these teams may be playing well into Saturday afternoon.

But the list of remarkable teams doesn’t stop there. With 1319, 832, 4026, and 3318 heading up a list of Peachtree Regional regulars, this event promises to be more of a head turner than anything we may have seen since the regional’s founding.

All in all, there are six spots to St. Louis, and with four wildcards in play, it may seem like it’s easier to sneak a ticket to the big show, but with a game where defensive robots can shut down powerhouses and rankings don’t matter, the Peachtree Regional promises to be one hell of a ride.

TRAFFIC ALERT: for any teams coming from north I-85 Saturday (Gwinnett and other teams), the AJC says there will multiple lanes closed until 7am to do sign work. At our first event, we faced a ton of robot issues, a fair number of field issues, and a less than stellar referee crew. At Peachtree, we managed to turn around our robot, but were otherwise disappointed.

For those that believe that the field issues are fixed by now, they are not. For those that believe that the referees have a good handle on the game by now, they do not.

We want to congratulate teams 108, 2283, and 1683 on their regional win. You guys had a crazy good alliance, and if someone besides us had to win, we’re glad that it was the ‘blue alliance’.

We want to especially thank team 108, it was great to work with you guys on late Friday and early Saturday. Alas if the stars had aligned properly, eliminations may have looked a little different.

We can’t give enough thanks to 4509 and 832 for partnering up with us. We had an amazing alliance, and we fully believed that we had the power to take it all. But, we will fully accept blame for our failures in the quarterfinals. We made a change to our shooter that seemed to have no adverse effects on the practice field. However, the bigger balls on the competition field caused some issues. We’ll never forget what could’ve been, but we have learned our lesson and will carry that forward.

We also wanted to give a shout out to the practice field crew, who, not only put up with our team, but also were willing to work with us to let us practice as often as possible. You guys were integral to our success this weekend.

With respect to the event, it seemed to go well. We really liked the new venue. There was a ton of space and the event staff really took advantage of that. We weren’t crazy about the $10 parking and how the stands seemed like they were about to fall over every time a team stood up, but those were small blemishes to overall well hosted event.

Now that we are back home and I have had some time to relax...

The 2014 Peachtree regional was wonderful and Team 108 SigmaC@T had a great time in Atlanta.

First off all, I want to thank the regional committee for putting up such a great regional. One of the members of the regional committee was in touch with us prior to the event answering all the questions and welcoming us to Atlanta. Thanks to all the volunteers who put in so many hours to make this happen. We gave the inspectors hard time however they were so patient and worked with us. The LRI Jeff has done an absolute awesome job with his inspector crew. The referees answered all our questions and kept us on the same page. Also, The two ladies sitting at the practice table helped us getting on the field many times to practice. I think this is the first time ever we were able to get on a practice field so many times at a 65 team regional. The planning committee did a great job.

We want to thank all the teams that have cheered with us and for us. Thanks to team 1648 for talking strategy with us and for being an amazing alliance partner during qualifying match. I wish we got to play together again. Thanks to another Motorola Solutions team 1261 for welcoming us and the advice their mentors have passed on to us. It was nice to meet Kellen Hill finally in person and coach a match next to him. Your team 1746 are sporting a great Team JVN machine.

Congratulations to team 2974 for winning the Chairmans award and to team 79 for winning the Engineering Inspiration award.

Thanks to team 3318, 2974, and 4189 for some memorable final matches. You guys were a great alliance to compete with. Good luck to team 3318 at the championship.

To our alliance partners ... team 2283 and team 1683, thank you for making us a complete alliance with a great strategy. One of our team members scouted 2283 from the mexico regional and we were watching them the whole regional. We knew we wanted them if they were available. Team 1683 was a steal for our second pick and they have dominated on the field defending our opposing alliance. Good luck to the both of you at the championship event. It was a privilege to be able to pick your team and win the regional. Thank you thank you thank you.

We hope to come back soon and visit our georgia friends.

To all the Peachtree teams:

Thanks for competing at the Peachtree Regional, and making my first time as a FRC Master of Ceremonies an experience I want to come back to!

Ever since seeing Karthik & Dave V. doing regionals, it was something I wanted to try out and see if I could bring something to the FRC stage. I have no voice right now, and everything aches; but I'm proud and honored to serve as a representative of GeorgiaFIRST.

Special thanks go out to Tony; having you as a co-MC was amazing. Next year, more shenanigans all around. More water gun fights. :D

I've got to give another set of thanks towards the Game Announcer team of Roy & Megan. Roy gave me advice on keeping my voice up (and I failed miserably, unfortunately), and other things to be a great MC. And Megan, having a fellow mentor & friend as part of the MC/GA team was heartwarming to me.

And finally, thank you to the rest of the volunteers: the judges, referees, field crew, and the people behind the scenes.

Congrats to our winning alliance, 108/2283/1683; I was glad to have courtside access to those Finals matches, and honored to do your intros. And to our finalists, 3318/2974/4189, you made those matches truly interesting. The eliminations have to be my favorite part of this game.

2974, congrats on bringing a well-deserved Chairman's Award back to the EC, and to 79 for EI. Alex (2974) & Emily (2415), welcome to the Dean's List family.

And finally, to my own team, 1648. I'm glad I took the opportunity from Anupam, Sunny, & Mr. Nichols to come and be a mentor at Grady. You guys made me proud to be a member of the G3 mentor team; championship-caliber performance all around. No doubt that we'll get that blue banner next year.

Yes, the field issues still exist. Yes, the referee issues still exist. We hope that FIRST will have them sorted by championship.

That aside, congratulations to 108, 2283, and 1683! You guys were incredible, and completely deserved it. The finals were some of the best matches I've played in (nothing tops the buzzer beater earlier in eliminations though). Well played, and I wish you guys luck at championships. We'll see you there :)

3318 and 4189, you were a joy to play with. We worked together so well, and we should all be extremely proud of what we accomplished. We were glad to be picked by 3318, and getting 4189 (arguably one of the best launchers in the competition) for our 3rd alliance member was an absolute steal.

Shout out to 1261! We are so glad to have worked with you this season, and look forward to seeing you at championships. Thank you so much for the support!

On behalf of team 2283 I want to thank every volunteer, every judge, mentor and student that participated in the Peachtree Regional. We've been in regionals all around the USA, and we have to say that Atlanta has become our favourite.

The integration between the teams and the cordiality of the volunteers was amazing. We'll surely return to Atlanta the next season. All the teams were willing to help, especially with the batteries that we're not allowed to bring all the way from Mexico.

A special thanks to our alliance, teams 108 and 1683! We hope we can play with you at champs! Congratulations also to 2974 for their Chairman's Award and to team 79 for their Engineering Inspiration Award.

The refereeing staff at Peachtree take great pride in being fair & consistent. The problems show how hard it is to referee a game as complicated as this one is. Thanks for being there & volunteering for three high stress days. (And that is just the game.) Realize if there are robots on the field, so are the referees. Without you, this game would be more of a mad house than it is.

Thanks to the Alliances we played in eliminations. You all deserved to be there. There were well played, tough games. The victories & the defeats.

Thanks to our Alliances partners, 3318 and 4189. Our whole was truly more than the sum of our parts. Your ability to work together and change strategies on the fly was awesome. (I can say that because I have nothing to do with coaching the drive team.)

This was my first year as a robot inspector. It is a great vantage point to see the high quality of the participants, student & mentors, of the FRC teams.

Team 1683 would like to extend thanks to everyone who helped make this past weekend possible: the referees, the GA FIRST volunteers, our team mentors, our team sponsors, GA FIRST executive board, and, of course, all of the great competition. We were breathless as we sat there in the final match, and listened to the sounds of our hearts pounding as we waited for the final score, and we shared that moment with our alliance partners. We would also like to say that it was a close, well played match with finalists 4189, 2974, and 3318 that kept us on the edge of our seats right until that final score was revealed. We know that that match came down to referee decision as have many games of Aerial Assist across many Regional competitions already played.

We would like to congratulate Team 79 for their win in Engineering Inspiration award; your robot was a pleasure to watch. Our team would also like to congratulate Team 2974 for winning the Chairman’s award, we thank you for hosting us at DE this scrimmage season and we will see you in St. Louis!

Team 1683 would also like to extend a heartfelt congratulations to Team 5109 from Johns Creek High School. We knew it was tough road for them and it was a massive honor to help them whenever they needed it. It was a privilege to help them develop in their rookie year of FIRST and we are immeasurably proud of their achievements in their first competition.

Team 108 (SigmaC@t) and Team 2283 (Panteras), it was a great privilege to play on an alliance with you. Our team was honored to be picked by and cheer with you and give you high-fives. Throughout competition our scouting team had been focused on the traditional Peachtree Powerhouse teams like 1261, 1319, 2415, 343, 4509, 4026, 4080 and 832; but our out-of-town visitors from Florida and Mexico were obvious to team up together. We just got lucky to be their third pick and representative from Georgia. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Muchas Gracias!! And lets have fun at Championships!
