Pneumatic help

Student on team #548, Robostangs, from Northville High School and BOSCH.

I am on a rookie team, and we just got our pneumatics kit today. We already have some ideas of what to do with it, but none of us are all that familar with the systems we got. Can anyone give us some information about using them, or post a link to info.
Thanks

I recommend that you make a display board similar to
the one shown in the flyer that came with the kit.

This will show you how you have to plumb these things
to make them work.

Chief Delphi 6 will definitely use pneumatics this
year. This is a milestone of sorts because we have
barely given them a second look since our rookie year
when they let us down and we had to do a major redesign
to get our robot even to function. This year they look
very good, very good indeed.

Thats what we started to do. The picture isn't very clear, but I think we have it hooked up right. Is there a way to operate the solenoid valves without using the robot controller? We got most of the pneumatic setup done, but the rest is not ready yet, and we want to test the pneumatics, and start working with them.
Thanks
Josh

The display board is your key. As for making the valves work there is a manual override on the solenoid (it wil be a little whie or organge button) Push it and the valve shifts. You will also find in the pnuematics catalog a website called www.fpda.org and a user name and password. There you can find pnuematics people close to you who can help you (distributor locator map)

Good Luck

Manually operating the valves & FORCE!

You can manually operate the valves by pressing the red (or orange) button on the valve. This helps when debugging and hand-operating the valves.

As for the pneumatics in general... think of the force involved:

F=PA

The force of a 2" cylinder = the pressure (60 psi) x the area of the cylinder (3.14 sq.in.).

That's over 180 lbs. of force... yowee.

Andy B.

ps... we will surely be using pneumatics
