3d modeling
 
has anyone tried using other software to make quick 3d models? Software such as Skanect or 123d catch

I have had some success with OpenSCAD. It is more of a scripting language but can import DXF files directly and there are a ton of useful libraries. What I like about the scripting language is that is makes it very easy to paramaterize objects like gears.
