2014 Greater Pittsburgh Regional

FRC Team 1501 T.H.R.U.S.T. will be coming from Indiana to compete at the California University of Pennsylvania regional.
Who will be joining us?
There's a California in Pennsylvania

Re: 2014 Greater Pittsburgh Regional

Team 48 will be returning to Pittsburgh (well, 45 minutes south of it) and looking forward to checking out the new, allegedly more spacious venue. No more plywood pit floor of death, one hopes!

Team 306 will once again be returning to the Regional. We look forward to the new venue and seeing all of the teams. As Travis said, hopefully no more death plywood floors.

What was wrong with the plywood floors?

Re: 2014 Greater Pittsburgh Regional

1708 is excited to be attending the GPR at CalU in our 10th year, as we have several alumni matriculating there that haven't been able to make it to the competitions in Pittsburgh.

Throughout the history of the event, the uneven seams of the plywood floorboards were legendary for causing some of the most hazardous conditions ever to ravage an FRC pit. They did make it better in later years. The pits were also notoriously cramped. But it no longer matters! Freeeddooooommmmmmmmm!

Information please :D

Are there any good, low priced hotels near the venue?
Right now we are registered at the Hampton Inn located 28 minutes south :ahh:

Re: 2014 Greater Pittsburgh Regional

Team 3260 will be attending. We're also interested in finding out how the new venue will turn out.

Traveling will be interesting, considering that it's about an hour drive from Pittsburgh to California.

Honestly there is nothing "close" to the University and choosing a hotel is going to be hard because there are only so many and most will be fully booked. The average time from hotel to their will be around 20-30 minutes. Good Luck all :yikes:

To hash onto what MentorPrice said here is the link to the closest hotels to this year's 2014 Pittsburgh Regional at California University of PA.

http://hotelguides.com/colleges/penn...nsylvania.html

They do get very pricey the closer you get to campus so unfortunately they farther you are the better the price. Hope to see everyone there!

Re: 2014 Greater Pittsburgh Regional

The venue is awesome, no worries about the floors. It is quite spacious and will make it worth the trip, CalU is going out of their way to make everyone feel comfortable and at home.

Much of the volunteer staff is staying at the venue in dorms converted to hotel space. Unfortunately it is not available to teams during the school year. PM me ASAP if you are volunteering and have any questions. We understand the hotel thing is an issue, I even priced out renting RVs for the parking lot.

Looking forward to seeing all of the teams there!

We are as well. Trying to tweak a few things we learned from NC.

or it's partner in crime: the well-meaning rolled up rug of doom? What about the climb of a million steps to the volunteer parking. No more of that cruelty as well?

It isn't all that bad. You just have to remember to pace yourself getting to the top, take a breather at each of the flat areas along the way. Of course we regular attendees no longer have to worry about that, here's hoping CALU's campus is a little flatter.

D_Price 19-03-2014 12:15

Re: 2014 Greater Pittsburgh Regional

It is much flatter. That is, depending on where you park or where they are going to allow us to park during the school year. As for the stairs, that used to be our exercise to and from competition haha. Made me feel like Rocky! :yikes:

3193 can't wait to get there and apply what we learned at NYTV.

Thanks to the generosity of Cal U, we'll be bringing a second bus on Saturday full of 8th grade and high school students (i.e. potential recruits for next year) to get their first taste of FRC.

The RoboBees are rolling west, heading to California, PA! We are excited to be competing at the Greater Pittsburgh Regional for our first time!

We are bringing our RAP (RoboBees Assistance Program) to assist any teams needing mechanical or LabView programming assistance. Our RAP team will be wearing Red RAP vests. Feel free to grab one of them if you need anything!

We are excited to be working with many old friends, and the opportunity to meet new friends!

This is where the webcast for the weekend will be. I'm not sure of the nature of the current technical difficulties. It should be running soon

The RoboBees wants to think the awesome volunteers, judges, referees and staff at such a well run regional! We also want to thank the fine folks at CalU for such a warm welcome!

We want to congratulate Team 771 SWAT for your well deserved RCA! The work you are doing in Africa is truly inspiring!

A special thanks to our amazing partners! It was an incredible ride! I knew as soon as we had formed our alliance we would take it all the way! Team 3260 - you have an amazing team and robot! You are all very SHARP! Team 4745 - for an second year team, you get it! I know this is just the first of many banners you will earn! I look forward to seeing you all in St. Louis!

To our opposing alliance, Team 1501, Team 2641, and Team 4150 - it was an honor to be on the same field! Those were three epic matches!

Thanks!!!

Re: 2014 Greater Pittsburgh Regional

We'd like to take this time to thank everyone responsible for creating and hosting this regional. It was an amazing event and we had a ton of fun.

We'd also like to thank teams 836 and 4547. 836, your awesome two hot ball autonomous and experienced drive team made our scores possible. Team 4547, your excellent field awareness, strong defensive play, and inbounding solidified our victories. There was no way we could have won this event without both of you. We never would have thought that our first banner would come from captaining an alliance. Our team hopes to attend Championships for the first time, maybe we can get the chance to play together again :)

To the 3rd Alliance, you all played extremely well and there was a moment where we were worried that our run was over. It was an honor to have played against you.

Team 1629 GaCo, would like to congratulate Team 836 The Robo Bees on their Event win, and the EI award. You are a great team, and we hope to compete/play with you at Championships!!! Hopefully we can qualify! Good luck!

2656 had a great time and saw a lot of amazing machines on the field!

Cal U staff took some photos which were posted online. You can check out the album here:

Congratulations to local team 2641 and our neighbors 4150 for their inspiring playoff run, and of course to 3260 on their FIRST Regional win. It's been a pleasure watching that team go from their original blue t-shirts to a blue Champions banner!

Hope to see everyone at the post-season scrimmage on 4/12

The RoboBees have a lot at http://www.youtube.com/TheHive836 but IIRC it is only for the matches that they played in.

CIA may have them, they had said that they would be uploading the archived match footage. You can email them at webcasthelp@team291.org to ask.
