2014 St. Louis Regional

FRC Team 1501 T.H.R.U.S.T. will be traveling to St. Louis for the first time.
Who will be joining us?

Re: 2014 St. Louis Regional

Team 1208 will be there (not on the list yet, but hope to be added from the wait-list soon). Here is a link to our St. Louis info packet; it is for the Championship, but has some useful stuff anyway: http://www.othsrobotics.com/pdfs/2013%20StL%20Guide.pdf

You folks are not rookies, but might benefit from our Rookie Guide to the St. Louis Regional, since you have not been there before. http://www.othsrobotics.com/pdfs/Rookie%20Guide.pdf
We are looking forward to meeting your team!

Great to see an Indiana team coming out for the regional! FRC4329 has registered for our home regional and will see you there.

Re: 2014 St. Louis Regional

I was glad to see an Indiana team like 1501 sign up for the regional this year due to the high likelyhood of you all going to the district structure next year along with Illinois. What worries me is that of 1208 not being able to attend Stl. Louis next year. That would be a huge loss for the regional. Something else that is interesting from a regional perspective is that its already at 40 teams with 931, 1094, 1208, and 4256 still being wait listed.

I'm very interested to see how an Illinois/Indiana district would affect St. Louis. With Missouri's major FRC hubs on opposite state borders it often feels like two completely separate regions. The boundry line between St. Louis and East St. Louis is about as blurred as the one between Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri. We are absolutlely tied to our neighboring states.

Looks like 4256 is registered now. :)

None of the other three teams above has ever missed a St. Louis Regional. Ever. And each has won at least one RCA and at least one WFFA at St. Louis. Sustaining teams, no doubt. I expect we will see them all return for 2014.

Thats a relief to know. All of the other three teams had registered at other events initially, but Saint Louis filled up very quickly this year. I hope they all make it in off the wait list, St. Louis just wouldn't be the same with out them.

Teams in areas that have taken up the district structure have the option of opting out. Which Team 1208 would do, not because we are opposed to the district model, but because in every way, except a political boundary, we are part of St. Louis.

The Stl. Regional is now up to 5 rookie teams this year with 5326 joining the list. 931, 1094, and 1208 are still being wait listed(I assume ;) ) but since the NASA grants have been announced I expect that they will be hopefully added soon.

Wow, cut out the swerve drive that they had last year and they replace it with that... Dang. Can't wait to see how it performs, It does look like a total beast.

Re: 2014 St. Louis Regional

Yeah I am by no means a friend of mecanum, but swerve on the other hand is my lover for life!!

If it performs as good as it looks they will be seeded extremely high this year.
And a team that pays that much attention to detail on aesthetics will likely have paid that much detail all throughout the year

I was not saying that as a bad thing, the swerve last year seemed to causes them a lot of problems. They took the time they spent on the swerve it into that beast of a manipulator. Awesome job guys!

(There is a reason I am bad at English class, I am not the best at conveying what I am thinking without drawing/CAD)

Re: 2014 St. Louis Regional

All of the teams that will play at Arkansas and St. Louis are in eliminations.

1985 is the second alliance and their captain
1706 is the seventh alliance and their captain
4500 is the second pick on the first alliance

My predictions, 4500 will win the event with their captain being 16 and 1985 will be the other Finalist. 1985 may pull through though!! I look for it to be a close match, 1985 made a very smart first pick.

1706 is going to have a hard time against 1985 and I doubt they make it past Quarterfinals, 1706 is a great team but they had a tough schedule and continue to have a tough schedule.

Cool!

The real Mutombo is 86" tall, and I think his diameter above the 60" mark exceeds six inches. So he'd get G23 fouls, if he were somehow able to pass inspection as an Aerial Assist robot and appear in a match. ::rtm::

Did your swappable blocker pass inspection?

Congratulations to the winning alliance of 1501, 3284, and 4500. Team T.H.R.U.S.T. represents Indiana very well, and it will be good to see you guys in St. Louis again next month. Nice that a couple of local teams will be appearing in the big show as well. Your alliance put up some impressive numbers.

Does anyone have the awards info? FIRST site does not show it yet -- I am going to guess the final upload did not happen before packing up this afternoon.

3284 earned a much deserved Chairman's award.
2978 earned the engineering inspiration award.
2408 earned the GP award.
2902 earned the Judges award.
1706 earned the engineering excellence.

Re: 2014 St. Louis Regional

Wow, what a great weekend! The St. Louis regional really kicked it up a notch this year and the eliminations were all very competitive. Thanks to all the volunteers that had us running ahead of schedule on both days! Almost unheard of in my experience.

First off, I'd like to thank teams 4028 & 1329 for joining our alliance and being great alliance partners. I felt really good about our alliance and we were definitely clicking in that first QF match; unfortunately we couldn't pull off the win in the 2nd or 3rd. You guys both have great robots and I wish 4028 luck at Queen City & 1329 luck at Boilermaker next weekend! Watch out for both of these teams, they were stellar in their first event of this season.

Great job to the number 2 seeded alliance of 4256, 1985 & 4330. We knew we were in for a tough fight against you guys, but I was happy to see you go all the way to the finals.

A big shout out to the number 1 seed for taking home the gold, especially team 1501 THRUST. Way to represent Indiana! I can't wait to watch the footage on our 1 point qualification match loss to you guys in match 80, that was a nail biter.

1706 & 931 - you guys have some really stellar robots, great job this year. It was a lot of fun to be able to play with both of you in the qualification rounds.

Lastly, I'd just like to thank everyone for the kind words this weekend. We felt this was our strongest competition performance to date and hope to keep the momentum rolling for next year.

Awards-wise, just for the record, we took home the creativity award, partially due to the heavy use of 3D printed parts on our robot.

We rookies had a great time and want to thank our mentor teams #1208 and #4246, alliance partners 3792 & 5176, and all the other welcoming and friendly squads. Unfortunately we came up against a great group of robots in the quarters and just couldn't press through.

We learned so much and had a blast doing it. We especially liked crowd pleasing truss catches ;)

That was definitely me. I'm still kicking myself for telling my drivers to go throw it in the high when we were up by 19. I was afraid you guys would just simply put up another 20 points in a matter of seconds and wanted to secure the win. You can re-watch the match in all its glory (or misery in our case) here: http://youtu.be/Bp648fINsrY Those are the kind of calls the separate the good from the great, but we'll get there. Re: 2014 St. Louis Regional

Giving Mr. Wendel, who had inspired most of us to go into engineering, the Woodie Flowers award, is about as aweseome as winning St. Louis last year. If you make it to another FTC or FLL event sometime... He'll be there. Through losing our coach and... Guess we can announce our new coach is leaving this year as well, so Tom Wendel is the most consistent part of this team, which these students really need. Tom is why we've won what we have.
