I'm mostly agreeing with everyone else posting to this comment about the fact that this isn't a warez board. But my question is that the sole existence of this message seems to prove that there seems to be a disturbing lack of transmisson of the FIRST ideals. Think about it for a minute: isn't this something that completely goes against what FIRST stands for? Maybe this is something that I just worry about, but I think that the mission of FIRST is more to change the way people think (Gracious Professionalism anyone?) than it is to encourage people to go into engineering. We're (well, at least I am) trying to make the world a better place and it disheatens me when I run across requests such as this. Why must people have such a me, me, me attitude and realize that there are others out there. Anyone think that a request such as this is illegal and not only that, that it puts the entire FIRST organization in a very bad light? I'd hate to see a reporter come to this site and see that one of the first messages is asking for pirated software. You'd think that since FIRST stresses the whole mindset so much people would get it but apparently not......

Matt who's done ranting for quite awhile and realizes that what he said had very little to do with the above post......

okay well i agree, stealing is bad.

borrowing is okay for and educational purpose. that is my theory behind software piracy. if you use it to learn and educate the youth, then by all means use it to educate. if you have the money to spend, then by all means support the company.

as for 3dsmax, my suggestion is to have 1 person who is very technical and willing to teach students. i can show you a way to install your version of 3dsmax on multiple computers (email me) but i will only show you the options (u'll have to figure out how to do it). Although trouble is unexpected, I will take no responsibility for advice I may give..... (any lawyers here?)

It's up to you. Email me if you want more advice. But remember to keep it within the boundaries of educational purpose and remember to uninstall it later on.

Be very careful about such things Anton. There's a rather fair chance that what you offered would be considered adding and abetting. I would recommend the offer and I don't believe this is the place for it.

If you wish to provide someone with illegal "advice" then you can be charged as Matt said. If you still want to do it then it should be done via private e-mail instead of a public forum, because now any Fed can know that Anton Abaya has information about pirating 3D studio.

Have you asked AutoDesk?

Not that I want to down play the righteous indignation. I totally agree with the sentiments against piracy here.

BUT at least last year you could apply to AutoDesk for extra limited time licenses for FREE! I don't know if they applied to 3DStudio Max but I know they applied to Inventor. I got such a copy but didn't use it as it refused to load in my machine. Due to inadequate resources :(.

The license only lasted 60 days or so but it would get you through crunch time and the price was right. The thing was you had to be at the AutoDesk seminar the day BEFORE the kickoff to hear about the offer. Your local education vendor probably never heard about it. You also had to go through a special contact.

Check with FIRST. If they're still doing this then you can get what you need and still not steal. Besides asking this question won't send you to jail, the worst they can do is say no!

: Hey,
: This is our 1st competition and we were wondering how to handle the bottle neck of having only one computer loaded with the 3-d studio max program. I contacted an education vendor and they want a grand for each additional site lisence. Is their a way to get the software on additional computers without coughing up additional monies? Also any suggestions about the best way to put the animation together would be greatly appreciated. We've got our story board done but dividing up the work is where things have bogged down. Thanks.
