Re: [FRC Blog] 2014 Game Hint
Hey all! Sorry if any of this has been seen already, but a bunch of things just clicked in my head and I want to get them out
I knocked the ratios down to decimal numbers, and I got(assuming I did my math right): 455.36, 6.45, and 2.07 Since there are 3 numbers, they could not possibly be used for coordinates, so I had to think, 'what else could we use these decimal numbers for?'. Then I saw the Dr Who image, so I started thinking about Tennant's run. Then I thought about The Library. The Dewey Decimal System. Looking up those numbers, this is the categories that they reference: 455.36: Basic Grammar, specifically, Italian (probably irrelevant, that last bit) 6.45 is acoustical pattern recognition, and the only classification in the DDS below that is Speech Recognition (!!!!!). Consider the new abilities of the Microsoft Kinect 2.0 (then again, it is built into the system so...) 2.07 was just meta-book stuff. Not sure what to make of it. So there's that. I might be way off, but it's something at least, right? |
Re: [FRC Blog] 2014 Game Hint
In the new numbers they kept the division of the numbers, you can express a division as / or : so this could be a kind of hint. :ahh:

Re: [FRC Blog] 2014 Game Hint
Again, please continue the discussion of the updated game hint on the updated Game Hint thread.

61474:135, 12661:1963, 32662:15806
if we think of them as ratios and simplify them we get this. 1:455.3629, 1:6.4498, 1:2.0664 if we round we get 1:455, 1:6, 1:2 Those that ring a bell to anyone??? |
Re: [FRC Blog] 2014 Game Hint
Listen to this person. The hint has already been figured out, most likely correctly, on the other thread, and it makes a lot more sense than any of the other guesses.
Edit: Well, figured out what the numbers mean. Not quite to the point of "Hint Solved" yet. Quote:

So, back to the first set of numbers in the original ones, which was 8234/57. This means we're looking for an athlete born on 82-3-4, or march 4th of 1982, who has a the record for career assists of 57. So, I searched athlete 3-4-82. I found Landon Donovan, a soccer player who was born on march 4th, 1982. He played many different teams, including the US National team. On the US team, he holds the record for the most career goals: 57! This cannot possibly be a coincidence. This is why it was iffy- it's not an assists record, and why they replaced it with one for the same sport. They also fixed it to have the year last, as we more commonly express dates. Now, what this means can vary. It could have to do with assists, or just the sports. I think it could mean that it's a game with soccer balls, basket balls, and hockey pucks, or a game combining soccer and basketball played on regolith. Both sound awesome and terrifying at the same time. |
Re: [FRC Blog] 2014 Game Hint
Gavin, good finding, but this was already discussed in the other thread. I realise 1,000+ combined posts between the two threads is a lot to sift through, so no worries. Just know that there is already discussion on the new numbers over in the other thread, including the same solution as yours.

Re: [FRC Blog] 2014 Game Hint
Oh! Thanks for letting me know, I didn't even realize we split into a new thread.

Re: [FRC Blog] 2014 Game Hint
Not a problem! A new one was created after the new blog post today. The thread can be found here: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...hreadid=123823

Re: [FRC Blog] 2014 Game Hint
I honestly think that the game has something to do with the number 3 and also a 25% weight reduction. Maybe a triangular field?

Instead of co-op between two alliances, it could be separated into the two alliances. Co-op between any two of three robots on red and likewise on blue. One possibility is directly assisting another robot to score by exchanging a game piece. Another possibility is a scoring move that is required by 2 of 3 robots on an alliance to open up a goal to score on or release a bonus element. These are some of the thoughts circulating around our team. Three days folks! :yikes: |
Re: [FRC Blog] 2014 Game Hint
I am reposting from the newest thread.
We had hints about 3's for 2005's Triple Play, where we transitioned from the 2 v 2 to 3 v 3. Also the "tetras" as a game piece. This also contained the first vision acquisition autonomous period, that was less than successful. It was also the last year without bumpers. There were some awesome collisions during the endgame frenzy of taking goals and running to the end zone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ePwDtrthWE Hence my thoughts: I like baseball (three bases), and hockey (three periods and three zones). Baseball: Wiffle balls. Easy to collect and throw and purchase. No harm to spectators. Three bases on the field for an endgame battle of which alliance can control the bases. Hockey: A goal at either end that can be defended by a goalie bot. You choose to defend the goal or pull the goalie to grab a base in the endgame that would allow the opposing alliance to easily score. Three periods, like in Aim High. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Vuwjse90AA For some reason, I am still expecting the weight reduction for the robots on the field, but an increase in the withholding allowance to encourage modularity and strategic decision making based upon alliance composition. Noodle-bot! |

Re: [FRC Blog] 2014 Game Hint
I found a post once where somebody found the numbers matched up to sport members. I don't remember the names, but I remember one was in hockey, one in soccer, one in basketball. The most I can think of when it comes to those three are the "goals" and not only that, each sport puts it into the goal in completely different ways.
Here's what I am getting at. If it is sort mail, or anything of the sort, it could mean that there are different levels of sorting mail. Just like in a lot of the competitions. (But I'm not saying I think we are sorting mail, you all just seem to be on a mail, and doctor who vibe right now.) |
Re: [FRC Blog] 2014 Game Hint
Maybe we should just lock this thread.
