[FTC]: Help With AutoDesk Inventor 2012 ?
Hi,
I am trying to "trim" a standard Tetrix ipt part file, a "long axle", in AutoDesk Inventor. Does anyone know how to do it? Do I have to modify the .ipt file directly? Or can I just chop off the piece I want to remove from within my .iam file? Here is a pic of my assembly. I want to "trim off" the part of the long axle that's sticking out on the left top... ![]() thanks - FTC Team #6389 |
Re: [FTC]: Help With AutoDesk Inventor 2012 ?
Under the assemble menu, click "save and replace component". It will then save it as a child of the original .ipt Then you can make whatever edits you want and just save it in a "modified parts" folder in your CAD directory.

Yes, you will need to modify the .ipt file directly. Creating your own Tetrix axle file wouldn't be a bad idea so you can more quickly and elegantly modify it the next time a similar situation comes up in future designs.

Re: [FTC]: Help With AutoDesk Inventor 2012 ?
Ok, thanks @nemo and @mozrila.
Now our CAD of our bot is complete. We'd like to create a 360deg "flyover" view of the CAD bot. Is this possible to do in Inventor 2012? We have found tutorials on how to "explode" all the parts out and have them go back together, but none that show how to do a "flyover". Any ideas? Or not possible in Inventor 2012? thanks again for the help! - FTC 6389 |

I have never used 2012, but in 2014 you would do it by using Inventor Studio and rendering an animation. Inventor Studio is in the environments tab.
