2014 Kickoff Stream Information.

Nasa Schedule says that the livestream kickoff lasts from 9:30-11:30 (UTC-06:00)

This, for my team at least, is a bit early for breaking aluminum lifting mechanisms, so I would like to know if the stream is re-broadcast at a later time in the day, or if it's feasible to just raw record, encode, and play the stream later.

Either method is acceptable, but I would like to see what other teams have done in the past.

We have a 1080P projector via VGA and an acceptable sound system used for auditorium presentations which we are making use of.

Thanks!

Usually VRHS3403 puts the entire stream on YouTube. I am not sure how early they will put it up. The other way for you to watch it again is to record it yourself. You can just start the stream up on your computer in full screen and use a screen capture program (ie. Fraps) to get it.
I hope this was insightful.

We normally time-shift it using various methods, sometimes even going the ol' VHS route (that was a low point). I'm not positive how we do it exactly, but if you're interested I can pass the message along to the guy who does it.

Mate, 9:30 is not too early to get to work, especially when it's such an important day.

If you want to watch the entire kickoff, you can find the entire event on youtube and/or NASA recording. The game related things (game animation, field introduction, etc. are available almost immediately after kickoff).

Early for you.. hmmm

The game videos and manuals all get posted on the FRC website very quickly. In addition the videos normally are posted to their Youtube channel right away. You can download the manual early, yes it is secure, but the passcode is released at the end of the game kickoff video. Much better than trying to download during the rush.

Hawaii's kick off is from 5:30am to 7pm, workshops throughout the day follow kick off video.

It is on a different island than our team is from, so we aren't able to go.
We have to send an adult volunteer over on the first flight (6am) to pick up our KOP and bring it back. Then it's a fun filled day of Design Thinking....

Think of the international teams watching it..

On our old team, we had the same issue. In the past, we just put it on a VHS tape, because to be completely honest, none of our students were interested in Dean's speeches. Those who were (and the mentors) just got up early. Then, after we played the VHS tape for the kids, we watched the game animations on youtube.

I'd love to see the kickoff at 5:30. Extra hours to work. :)

You'd think so, eh? But try re-phrasing that another way:

"I'd love to be sleep deprived in ADVANCE of build season!"

We've tried the 6:30am kickoff thing and found it wanting. ;) (I was looking for a smiley with two closed eyes...)

Odds are, before 10, we'll see pieces of the NASA TV stream, and then at 10, we'll see the FIRST logo with generic electronic music in the background. 10:30 will be the start of the actual broadcast.

I believe FIRST has MOST of the kickoff on their Youtube later in the day. The stuff of immediate importance (ie. the animation) is up right away, along with the (also-important) field tour videos

IIRC, last year's kickoff was way shorter than any other year, and on time.

While I do love Dean's speeches, it's tough to watch some people (like our principal!) struggle with the boredom of watching the whole thing. Unless you get FIRST, the speeches can be a little bit boring, so I'm hoping for another quick one this year. That being said, the game introduction last year was so abrupt, some people in the room thought it was a joke (especially when the guy said "robots can climb on the pyramids to earn extra points!")

OP is the central timezone. For him or her, the broadcast would start at around 9:30.

You think 0930 is bad? Try 0400. Kickoff in Australia is an overnight party!

Even if you do get FIRST, Dean's speeches can be painful at times. He's got a great message, but he takes forever to say it. Reigning in his speech-giving was one of the biggest improvements of last year's kickoff.

I'm pretty sure FIRST are aware of this; they've poked fun at the length/pace of Dean Kamen's speech during kickoff before.

Correct. If anybody else would like to see what Nasa is listing, it's here:
http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/schedule.html

This will list it in the viewers current time-zone, usually.

All times are GMT -5. The time now is 10:56.
