Rule G36 question: Paddles

1 Attachment(s)
I am wondering about a certain part of rule G36. The manual states that "Any extension above 60 in. may not exceed a 6 in. diameter vertical cylinder", but I was wondering if a "paddle" type blocker that, in the process of swinging upward, would exceed the bounds of the 6 in cylinder, but when in position would fit within the cylinder. I made a simple diagram to help explain what I'm talking about.

Presumably, it would be allowed, but I'm not taking any chances!

Check figure 4-3c. I think that's what you're talking about (it's labeled "NOT OK").

If the paddle is perpendicular to the ground than it should be categorized as the first extension in 4-3. It just needs to be less than 6 inches wide.

If you are rotating it up along the indicated arrow though, the rotating piece itself must fit within a 6" vertical cylinder during its entire motion.

There is no 'in position'. If it moves such that it doesn't fit into that 6" cylinder, it's not allowed.

If you really don't want to take any chances, don't ask us...we don't know either. Ask the Game Design Committee on the official FIRST website. Our collective opinions here on CD are just as good at competition as any random drunk on the street.
